I drove an auto-shift for two years and never had any issues with not having control. There is a manual mode on there for a reason.

The lack of control excuse is one of the most pathetic I've ever heard.

It's only in a person's mind, not in reality.

Well I think some people can get into accidents if they panic and cant find a gear or something while driving through a town. Sometimes people focus so much on shifting, that if they miss a gear, they take their eyes off the road to swear at the stick shift.

If a driver gets into an accident because he missed a gear (with the exception of being on a steep grade), he's got no business driving. I missed my share of gears in my days and I wouldn't take my attention off the road in a brake check situation. I'd just leave it in neutral and brake harder than I would if it was in gear. On normal road conditions where there's not a grade issue as I already mentioned, you can bring your truck to a stop in neutral just as easily as you can down shifting. Sometimes if you have to brake real hard you'd never be able to down shift, even in an auto-shift.
