Are they spoiled?

It would seem to me that after reading some of the threads on this forum that a lot of truck drivers seem like spoiled little babies. I.E. One driver said he quit because he was told he would get a different truck but it was going to be a month longer than he was told so he just quit. Whoopte do he was going to have to wait an extra month to get a different truck.
There are a lot of things that I have noticed people complaining about and the only thing I can think of is while reading a lot of the threads is grow up and quit acting like cry babies.

I dont think they are spoiled--i just think they have their expectations too high when they first get out there and then they get busted back down when reality sets in.

I have heard of people quiting for some real petty things but thats in all walks of life and all professions, not just truck driving. I used to landscape before I started driving and I saw a foreman walk off the job just because he didnt get the new bobcat that the company had purchased. In the smae effect sometimes its the little things that finally get you fed up and quit, drivers have to put up with alot of things out there on the road after a long day maybe not getting his truck was the last straw and not the only reason.

A lot of people who get into trucking don't have a clue what the business is about and what is involved untill after they get into it. They think, hey I'll drive a truck, make a lot of money, and see the country. What they are'nt prepared for is the reality of a long haul truckers life. Weeks away from home, sitting for hours at shippers and receivers without pay, unrealistic delivery schedules, lying dispatchers, police and DOT inspectors whos only purpose in life is to find ways to take your money. If the recruiters would tell the bad stuff along with the good a lot less people would do this for a living.

Ya I wouldn't say spoiled is the WORD. But I would say expectations can run really high, and not actually knowing what you are getting into can be a let down and cause frustrations beyond belief.

YOU can never say you know a JOB of any kind 100%.

Remember, "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get"

I'v driven trucks you wouldn't believe!!! no door windows, no heat, no ac in TX summer, a tuck you couldn't turn the heat off in (same as the truck with no ac in TX summer!!) trucks you had to hold the gear stick in gear to keep driving. I even once drove a truck a few hundred miles with no clutch!!

Ya I think most the new people are spoiled and very unrealistic. The big otr companies are usually running very plush equipment. You get away from that job and all bets are off

Mike worked for a company and drove a truck for an entire winter with NO HEAT!!! It gets VERY cold up here in the dead of winter and is usually between 5 degrees and -15 degrees C all winter - very variable.

He wore many layers, long underwear, lined gloves, a thick hat, and brought lots of hot coffee. Yeah, he was TICKED but he didn't QUIT because you can't just quit a job (not in our world, anyway, not until you have another). It was ridiculous and unreasonable and four hours straight on the highway at 3 a.m. every Tuesday was not easy to handle but he got through it. (that was the worst part. After that, he had many stops and drops so could get warm going in and out of warm buildings)

People quit way too easily these days. Sometimes, yes, they have good reason but who's going to pay the bills? Mike knows, he quits without another job he may be working as a dishwasher or something just to bring money into the house. So many just go home to mommy or their significant other and say, "I can't take it."

So? Suck it up, get through it, keep looking for another job and do your part to support your family.

Yeah, I think a lot of people PERIOD are spoiled these days.

If you were a good wife you would take a winter job washing dishes and shoveling snow so Mike could stay home and be nice and warm watching TV. Just kidding.
