Been following your posts... congrats. I'm in Phx. and been out of it for 4 years and looking to go again. Kept my CDL and med card updated and am going back to school for 3 weeks to retrain class and road, and re-test for re-certification. I already have tanker, hazmat, doubles and triple endorsements. If you hear of any other openings please, let me know. Am willing to go FT or PT to get my foot in the door again.

Been looking for union work but it's all back east and mid west. And been looking at flatbeds also. But I am 57 and not a big dude, so am leery of that, but willing to do it if I get a shot. There are NO trucking jobs here in Phx. except Swift (not an option) and Crete, which is a possibility.

Going OTR I am leery of another thing too, and that is evidently the failry recent rules on idling... over a certain % cuts into your pay. Thing is, in cold or heat, ya gotta idle. Most trucks don't have APU's, so you are stuck with whatever alternatives are there...

Again... congrats. Sounds like a great job.

I know the "stupid" feeling. I have been offroad for 3 years, and the best it seems I can do is ENGLAND (ouch!) They can retrain me in 2 weeks and get me back up and running. After that I have heard work there for 6 months, then come back and reapply. I am just hoping I can stick out the 6 months of winter driving, I am not a mountaineer,, for sure. I like midwest to east,so east, southwest.

In any case, It appears that Werner doesn't look at us either. Be sure to fill in all the work experience, I learned that from eng. Even if you roped cows, it may help you out!

Good Luck!

Well...Right now I am out of options. spoke to another recruiter...He said the three years can't be avoided, same as Helwig, he told me 6 months and call him back he would have a job for me. I found his attitude about the east coast rather abrupt, "you need to move back to Texas and renew your Tx CDL..." Well..That is my plan in the long run...but right now I am not in a place to pick and choose. I still have to come up with eating money (Dollar Menu I guess) and they can take me in as early as saturday which leaves me homeless only 3 days. I get to take the bus...I remember the days when I had enuff to take a plane...hahaha! Yokes on me now! See what we old timers get when we try to return to the land of the living. So different from 1977 when life was much better. Grandfather in have a job, most were honest, and O/O. Well, I must do this, it is all I have. If anyone finds me a miracle please let me know. Until then, "A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do"

[quote=nstar92;590652]Well...Right now I am out of options. spoke to another recruiter...

Good morning! I see that you' appear to be talking with companies that have some "size" to them. Have you tried speaking with local smaller companies close to where you live? They may be more flexible on their hiring requirements and their insurance company might not be as stringent and the larger company.

I've been on the road (again) since the end of July. It's all coming back and the logging issue has been taken care of. I will add that the two dispatchers with my company expect you to fudge your logs so I'm constantly back at them for that. Good luck on finding a place to work...

Roy

I'm having the same problem. I've been local for 10 years and now that the construction industry is gone cuputs so has my job. I hate to go back out there but I have a dirty MVR (speeding on my bike). That puts me less than a perfect fit for another local job. I've been home for over 3 years so they want me to start over again. I have however found a couple of (smaller) companies that will at leas deal with me since I have a lot of flatbed experience. Good luck

OTR double standard

My husband is finding that if he says I have X years experience. Then they want to know what have you done in the last five?

But if you have a bad driving record, the consequences stay with you possibly forever!
