werner enterprises..some questions.

So my husband is leaving tomorrow for training. I just had a few questions, first of all do you make decent money working for this company? We are here wishfully thinking we will get out of this dump into a nice place once he starts getting his checks, are we fooling ourselves? Also how long does it take to get your first check? We are behind on bills and this is stressing me. I just want honest opinons on this company..

hhmmmm after 4 days and no responses........

I have been hearing some not so good things about werner however, bad things always travel faster than the good........

Just some advice not directly about werner but universal.

Tell your husband ........he has to put his time in show the company he is there to work......be on time (early) for his p/up and deliveries everytime.
Most important................don't get on is dispatchers bad side.....I do not condone kissing a-- however even conveying that you are pissed off can be done tactfully.

Good luck to both of you this will be a hard time for both of you.......
In order to make the money have to be away from home but wanting to be home can't make any money.............

Do a search on this site you will find plenty about werner.........

Arpokor, I drove with Werner for 3 months after I graduated from CDL school. Regardless of what anyone will tell you, the only complaint that I had working for them is the low pay per mile. You will get PLENTY of miles if you are willing to go OTR. I averaged over 2600 as a newby (but I wasn't afraid to go anywhere). Their health benefits are great. Members of this board have a tendency to bash them but the company keeps people in the tractors somehow. Some companies are just a better fit for some individuals. I would probably still be with them if they would have let me switch to a dedicated account. Deciding on a trucking company is a very personal decision that requires lots of thought and self inspection. Good luck and godspeed on your future. Do let us know about how the career turns out.

Hey Dr Livingstone (Love it)
I thought your comment was good and i am with you alongt he same line of thought. I am about to start with Werner just finnished Grad school and am 53 years old (So been around a while)I have read so many bad reports (About many truck companys) but with Werner they have like 9.000 Trucks and over 14.000 employees, ([LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. ) and a lot of the bad press comes from years ago and relly even if there was a 1000 people who have had problems my experiance with big companys is there are a lot of folk who just are lazy and dont want to work and just complain

No matter what industry you are in so i suppose why would trucking be any different? There arnt a whole lot of companys out there who will take recent grads on so this is a risk for both new driver and company (how many folk would let some stranger who has just passed there test drive your new $30k Pick up truck for 10days at a time ?? if you get my comparison???)

I also agree i have spent a lot of time trying to make the right decision on who to go with, difficult one and who knows i may find it too hard or not? but have to give it my best shot and just do it.
Ok mate well thank you again and hope you dont mind my comments here ? ride safe mate

The more miles your husband get...the more money he will make...the longer your husband is out there driving...the more miles he will get...so if he's hearing nothing but bad things on his cell phone...it's more then likely he's going to get stress and feel pressured...then wanna come home...this would be a good time to start working if you are not already...

There is no way that your friend should even consider trucking!
Giving up smoking is a must!
My husband was a heavy smoker for 30 years, but once he decided to become a trucker he stopped and hasn't touched it in 2 years, and he won't as long as he remains a driver.
There is no room for a drug-using trucker on the roadways.

Drop the guy, drugs do not mix well with driving trucks and substituting urine....for the test are you crazy ?

You should do him a favorand report him right now before he kills some one i cant belive some one would ask such a foolish question here common sence ...?

This is one of the reasons trucking has been regulated so hard due to people like your pal not using common sence, and when enough people get killed then the gov does some thing about it and then people whine.

Go solo , find another partner or you will live (or not) to regret it

Save yourself the trouble and ditch the friend or he WILL drag you down with him. If they search the sleeper and find his stash, your CDL will be equally ruined (even if your urine tests negative). Understand that getting caught smoking is damaging to a normal citizen but it is equal to the death penalty to your license if you are in a commercial vehicle.
ran·dom (rndm)
adj. 1. Having no specific pattern, purpose, or objective: random movements. See Synonyms at [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. .
2. Mathematics & Statistics Of or relating to a type of circumstance or event that is described by a probability distribution.
3. Of or relating to an event in which all outcomes are equally likely, as in the testing of a blood sample for the presence of a substance.
Pay close attention to number 3.
