| Good person needs help Hello everyone... I have been a member here for a while but have only posted a few times. I have a situation that you guys might be able to help me with. I graduated from a truck driver school in West Memphis, AR, in August of 2006. I graduated at the top of my class and, as a matter of fact, 2 days before anyone else in my class. Now enters the problem. Back in 1994, I stupidly pled guilty to a felony charge of Theft of Property 1st degree. Nowadays, it called computer hacking and what I did is actually considered a misdemeanor. I never served a day in jail and have subsequently been fully pardoned by the state of Alabama. Notice, I didn't say erased or expunged. Well, while I was in CDL school, noone would take me on as a driver but Werner. I did my training and drove with them OTR for 3 months in over 35 states (including NYC). I never got home once in those 3 months. I never had a single incident or a late delivery. I left them because of a "better" offer from JB Hunt. They got me home on weekends and gave me more money per mile. What could go wrong? I will let you guys answer that amongst yourselves. Anyways, I drove for them until April of this year (yet again, without incident and without a single service failure). Here's the deal, I am a great driver who is not afraid of high miles and hard work. I have the following endorsements: tanker, hazmat, doubles/triples. I have not had a single MVR violation in the past 10 years (not even a parking ticket). I am recently married and really wish not to be OTR. I understand that my options are limited but it is important to me. All of the local LTL guys that I have spoken with/applied to will not consider me (ConWay, UPS, Old Dominion, Averitt, and Saia) It is really depressing. I am currently working for a temp agency that only places CDL drivers and am making a whopping $12 per hour. It's a shame that some company will not take a chance on a driver that made a bad decision but has been flawless for over 14 years. I am willing to spend a few nights on the road but not two or more weeks at a time. I am at my wits end and am tired of pouring over the Sunday paper to only come up empty. I am not afraid to learn flatbed or any other sort of specialized freight. If anyone out there in the forum community knows of an opportunity in the greater Birmingham, AL, area or Southeast region, please let me know... Thank you. |

| Bear with me here, as I try to remember some things. I may have to come back and add another post. So check your thread again over the next couple of days. I used to live in Grayson Valley...so I'll help as much as I can B.R Williams is local to you. And may consider you for placement. They run some local and regional. Right down the road from you..Pinson Valley Pkwy (hwy 79). I saw a sign for drivers. A local grocery warehouse, on the right if you're headed into Birmingham. This was Tuesday of this week. Additionally, you can look into USA for a position driving a cement truck. the work is seasonal, but the pay is REAL good. You can also go by the local Towing company in Birmingham. I forget the name. But they are located on the south side of the interstate (I-20) almost in the downtown area. I want to say they are located between 30th and 40th street area, double check that. As I said earlier, I can't remember the name. But they offered me a job once. They are VERY interested when they find a driver with a clean driving record. They do commercial towing, and need(ed) drivers. It took them about 3 days to call me in. They acted like total ##### while I was there. But decided it was all good once they realized I had a clean DMV. R.E. Garrison might consider you. I have a few others, that I can't recall the names of..I can see the truck and graphics in my mind...but I draw a blank for the names. Check back later. I'll post them as I remember them.

| Have you tried looking for small local companies? They don`t usually offer the benefits like the bigger companies do but most would love to find good dependable and honest drivers.Speaking from my experience I would have loved to have hired people like that.Employers with just a few trucks probably can`t match benefits with the larger companies but most are willing to go the extra mile to keep good people. good luck in your search. |

| Thank you both for your replies. I will look at the companies that you posted. To be completely honest, benefits are not my greatest concern. Actually, I don't even worry about the pay that much. My wife is an overpaid psychiatrist. It was her income that allowed me the freedom to attend CDL school and fulfill my childhood dream of driving a big truck. Every time I get behind the wheel, it is such an exhilirating feeling. I am truly thankful for every day that I can drive down the road and take in God's greatest creation. That being said, I would be a great asset to any company that would give me a chance. My only request is to be able to see my beautiful wife on a regular basis. It doesn't have to be every day but I am adamantly against OTR. Once again, thank you both for your caring input and God bless you as you travel the great interstate that is life. |
