Does an EX Felon have a chance?

I have a Felony. My crime CHILD SUPPORT. I failed to pay child support after the State of Missouri Division of Child Support notified me I was done paying. Silly me, I believed them. He was 18 and in Basic Training. The Judge ruled the National Guard is not Military Service. I found myself paying child support while he was in Iraq. Bottom line case is on appeal even though I have complete my prison time (yes girls some of us do go to prison for this) and my parole time. 4 years total. Now, I cant get anyone to give me a shot. TransAm was the latest to turn me down.
Should I resign myself to finding a different career? Should I buy my own truck? Should I become a Gigalo? Any advice is appreciated.

My god, its a felony??? Wow, you have been through the ringer, haven't you. I hope that you can get this wiped from your record. Do you still have the letter stating that you didn't owe any more CP???

Sorry, 50 questions, but it just baffles me how a judge can put a felony on someone record for that.

I'd keep trying, you might look at some smaller companies, and explain your situation to them. Some may give you a chance.

Dang guy, I feel for ya! Especially since he was 18. What's your states age of consent?

Sounds like they gave you a screwing. I'd fight that. Why should you pay support for somebody who's legally an adult and earning money for himself?

Well i can relate, not as bad though. I was in kuwait last year and was sending payments to my brother to hand carry to the courts for me, well he was late and the ex complained. A sheriff notified my mother i had court the following week an she explained he's in Kuwait and unable to be there. The sheriff said ok but you still have to take this summons, she did an a month later she told me about it. In the mean time my c/s is back on schedule and up to date. As soon as i got back and applied for a job that requires a background check ,they said you have a warrant. So i went to the sheriffs office and found out i had a warrant for missing my court date. I thought no problem i was overseas an can prove it, passport in hand i stood before the judge an said i was never summons to appear in court, i was overseas and here is my passport. He never even look at it an said i find you guilty of contempt of court your fine will be a court cost of 150.00 before you can leave. Can you pay, i was in shock, after trying to explain again , the bailiff said answer the question . Yes i can pay and the bailiff escorted me to the window to pay before showing me the way out. To this day no one can explain why i got screwed??? Still looking for answers, and my record is tainted.

Of course it also doesn't help in cases like this that the courts are big time patriphobes. 9 times out of 10 the father is the bad guy and the mother is always right.

Innocent until proven guilty my foot.

A perfect example of the government doing the wrong thing weither it's loacl government or national government. Government has consistantly been doing the wrong thing rather than the right thing ever since Ronald Scumbag Reagan signed amnesty for millions of Mexicans, to the present where by the government has failed to monitor, regulate, the home loan industry allowing people to buy homes that were unquailfied; causing the housing/credit crisis. Not to mention the all around economic collapse.

If it's any help there are 100's of thousands of males out there riding bikes and pushing grocery carts because of government interferring with husband and wives.

wooly rhino good luck. Oh, I just remembered. There is a company out there that will hire felon's. And there are some that will hire felon's depending on the felony. I will think on it, and research it over the next couple of days. I'll try and get back here. Don't give up just yet. Gigalo does sound alright if you can get the work.

I have a theft of property felony charge for computer hacking in 1994. I never stole a dime but they didn't have computer charges on the books back then so they ruled it theft of property. I was sentenced to one year of probation and my probation officer saw me one time, asked me for $240 and said that I never had to come back. Last year, I applied to Old Dominion. The terminal manager wanted me badly but the home office wouldn't let them hire me with a theft charge. He confided in me that he knows of a convicted murderer who drives for them locally. He said and I quote, "they will hire murderers and rapists but they won't touch you if you have a theft charge." I feel your pain brother and I hope you get it straightened out.

Thanks for all the encouragement It really helps. The case has lots of political stuff in it. I was the 1996 and 1998 Republican Nominee for US Congress, Missouri Sixth District. The Democrats (I do not change my beliefs but the parties do) ask me to run as a Democrat in 2004. When I was lead off to prison, three Television Crews were there to film the event. A little word of advice, if you ever go to prison, try to sneak in. You dont want to be famous in prison.

Missouri law ends Child Support different ways. Number 1, child dies. Number 2, Child gets married. Number 3, Child enters Active duty in the Military. Number 4 child becomes self supporting and moves out. Number 5 Child turns 18 unless child is going to school. If he or she goes on to College they must enroll for and complete 12 hours per semester.

My argument was my son had entered Active Duty by joining the National Guard and going to Basic Training. At the time the military gave you different color of ids. His was GREEN which is for ACTIVE duty. As a Veteran (Vietnam ERA not Vietnam), I can garantee you that Basic Training is Active duty. It is possible to join the National Guard and never go to Basic. You can actually retire from the Guard with no ACTIVE Duty. For example, you can be hired to look after the Armory. They do this for police officers in small towns. The Judge didnt care. He said that National Guard is not Military, just a "part-time job." I then went on to the part about him going to college. I said your honor, he enrolled in 13 hours but never went to class. He did not complete the 12 hours required. So even by that standard he should have been emancipated on his 18th birthday which was three days before he went to Basic Training. I knew all this because he was living with me at the time.

Now, this is where I made my mistake. The judge looked at me and said "Mr. Bailey, I do not know why you are defying me." I said,"Your honor, if you are asking me why I am defying you, it is because I have a low torenance for stupidity." Not my best moment.

He order the sheriff to handcuff me and take me to the Department of Corrections for the next four years. The Sheriff said he would take me away but would not handcuff me because he felt I was correct.

What did I learn? I can make a knife out of just about anything and I avoid Saline County, Missouri. Thanks again for the responses. Jeff

I have about as much tolerance for judges as I do cops. Draw your own conclusions.

Ok, so your comments weren't that great, but still, this is a life changing judgment that he made. Man, I'm really sorry that this all happened to you. I certainly hope that you can get it appealed and off your record. I think that its a crock.

Our age of consent is 19 here, which I think is wrong. If they can move out and stay out past midnight at 18, they are old enough to be responsible for them selfs, since they are the ones making the decisions.
