I screwed up so...

Now Im having no luck looking for another job. I was with Crete 8 months and had 2 preventables and got one citation. 1st was a truck stop bump, second was an illegal u-turn. Ive called a few big carriers, but they either want 1 year or dont want anything to do with someone who made an illegal u-turn. Ive called some local companies, but they want 1 year as well. Any advice?

Sounds like you are in a tough spot. Don't give up, keep looking. You might try a local sand and gravel company to get you through for a bit.

Good luck!

I hate to say it. But I'm with Don on this one. Look closer to home, at smaller companies.

With trucking in the position it is in now, they will be picking the cream of the crop at most companies. It would have been tough even in the best of times with your current status.

But there are a few locals/regionals that are still running strong, and need drivers.

That went right over my head. I think.

Ads are bought by most companies on a 3-12 month buy. So they'll keep running them...even after the company closes, if it was pre-paid. Terms of the contract.

We're "growing". But that doesn't mean they would look more than once at his application, if they had 10 students or 5 experienced drivers willing to apply.

Out of curiosity, did you quit Crete or did they let you go? I was just wondering if you could go back to them. I am not familiar with their policies regarding accidents and citations.

I was fired. My (former)terminal manager is trying to help me get back with them. Im willing to go back with a trainer for however long it takes, so I hope they will accept this. If not, Im eligible for rehire in one year...so Cretes not permanently out of reach.
Thanks for the help!

Was the U-turn an accident or a citation? If it was an accident then yea your going to have a real bad time of it at best. Some types of accidents are considered to be unforgivable meaning they never should have happened in the first place. U-turn, changing lanes into another vehicle, and rear end from following to close rate among them.

Think small my friend. Sure, BIG companies pay more. But they are not gonna hire ya because of the 2 preventable's and a moving violation. At least you didn't test positive on a drug screen! Just kidding!

Relax and get a local gig, enjoy a small co.There's plenty of time to hire on with a giant co. that will run you into the ground......... These thing's take some time to work themselves out.

Dang....do i sound cynical or what?
