Some questions for truckers

1. How can someone aged more than 18 but less than 21 get a trucking job?

2. does your butt hurt? spine? when sitting for... is it 8 hrs a day?

3. Can you sleep in your truck? No permanent address required?

4. Do you have to talk to your boss for a long time?

5. IF your muscles aren't very thick, do you still have to be able to lift up heavy things?

6. Do truckers daydream while they are at work?

It will be hard to find a job unless you are 22-25 years old all companies have different requirements you may be able to get a job localy with a concrete company or dump truck job.

Sitting fo 8 hours a day?
We sit and drive for 11 hours a day but it may take up to 14 hours for us to get the 11 hours of driving in sometimes we can not drive the whole 11 hours because we are sitting at the shipper or reciver too long. Some of us do take breaks every 3-4 hours to go to the bathroom etc.

You can but you will loose a tax write off if you do not have a permant home address. We sleep in the truck every night while we are on the road unless you want to pay for your own motel.

We talk to our driver managers they are not our bosses they sort of work for us. If we have problems getting the miles we need or other issues we can fire them and get a new driver manager. Now with that Said if we fire the driver manager they will not loose their job they just will not be talking to us. However if too many drivers fire the same driver manager then their boss may fire them.

I was working at a company that belived that they hire drivers to drive not unload the truck. They paid for all of the lumpers.

I mean can you do that without getting into accidents? Is it pretty common practice to listen to audio books?

I think 22 is the minimum for alot of companies. Their insurance companies are sometimes the reason.

2. does your butt hurt? spine? when sitting for... is it 8 hrs a day?
When I started driving, my lower back and arms hurt bad. Now, my neck sometimes aches. Usually, a little massage helps it.

3. Can you sleep in your truck? No permanent address required?
If you have a sleeper, yes you can sleep in it. I dont know the specifics about living in your truck, as far as documentation.

4. Do you have to talk to your boss for a long time?
Depends upon who you view your 'boss' as. You do communicate dispatchers, managers or sorts, other people in the company.
5. IF your muscles aren't very thick, do you still have to be able to lift up heavy things?
Every company is different. Some require assist in load/unload, and some do not want you to touch anything.

6. Do truckers daydream while they are at work?
Im sure I have, but I do not lose focus of whats happening around me. I have made some mistakes, but they werent the result of day dreaming.

Lupe, I find that I'm usually more alert when actively listening to an audiobook or simular satelite radio channel. Its when I let myself sit there an "veg" that I start to "drift" or daydream. The side benefit is that it acts as a warning sign for me. When I catch myself not paying adequate attention to keep up with the storyline ["drifting"] I know that need a break.
