I know a few making money . I know 1 running 3 trucks under his authority . They averaged over $100,000 gross each last year . That was running under 80,000 miles each .

What are they pulling? RV's, car wedges, gooseneck flats?

It seems to me that, if there was more money in hot shots, there would be a lot more of them out there. When I was ops manager for my friend's company for a while, after I got hurt, I had one hot shot and, while, he did fair, he certainly wasn't generating the revenue of our big trucks.

I was seriously looking into becoming a hot-shotter with my own authority back in '06. I came to the conclusion that I couldn't do any better doing that than I could as a company driver in a big truck.

I'm sure (just like in the big truck world) there are some instances involving being in the right place at the right time that will pay off huge dividends in the long run. I just don't seem to have that kind of luck.

Gooseneck flats . They have a couple of 40 footers and a 32 footer . They have a couple of good base customers and relationships with brokers that call them for good loads that never get posted on load boards . They also have started getting government contracts . There is one out west that gets good work from Admiral Merchants . Salesmanship is a key to success . You have to be able to get out there and establish accounts then provide superior service .

    LB nailed it.

I might have been the one to ban him, I don't remember. One thing to keep in mind for some of the moderation on the forum.......... we have kids that come thru and some are even members. We try to keep things to where if their parents walk in on them they don't have to be ashamed of whats on the screen.

Some days it is really tough to be a mod. Folks will always hate the staff no matter what they do in terms of moderation.

If there was more of them out there they'd make less . Supply and demand . Most hotshotters are 1 truck operations with their own authority . You need business savvy and sales ability to succeed . You can't survive working off load boards . A dually with a gooseneck isn't necessarily a true hotshot . Hotshot is like expedite flatbed hauling time sensitive freight ASAP . Hotshotters do haul non-hotshot loads though if the rate is right .

crow I have a buddy running hotshot in oilfields out of colorado and he makes real good money. problem is you take a $50k dually and you can literally watch it wear out in front of your eyes. so in two years it's worth nothing
