Don't know if you know this or not but those little magazines are paid for by the year. A lot of companies do the same thing. My question is how does that make them a bad company? ALL of the big companies have huge turnover, but still have drivers who've been with them many, many years. What works for one driver might not work for another.

I work for werner so I might be able to help with your questions if your still interested.

    1. It depends where you live for the most part, call driver placement and ask what is available in your area. And yes I believe if nothing is available you will be terminated in 30 days.

    2. No idea, but if there are trucks at other terminals they will send you on a bus there for a truck.

    3. Very high I am sure but every large company has a high turnover rate.

    4. Starting out my miles were pretty low. I was also learning how to do everything solo and once I showed my dispatcher that I was a good driver my miles picked up. Currently I get around 2000-2500 a week and take home 6-700 or so. A couple weeks have been a little lower and some a little higher. My pay would be higher but loads are simply not available at the moment so you can spend time waiting. (getting stuck near chicago sucks since there are always 500 werner drivers around waiting for a load) My dispatcher does everything he can tho. Ive been paid to "relocate" (basically drive an empty trailer) 300 miles to an area with more loads available or deadhead 300+ miles to pick up loads.

Also it will help if you are willing to go into Canada since a lot of werners fleet cant go into Canada at all so that gets me a lot of miles.

Thanks so much for your reply, that's exactly the info I was looking for.If you don't mind me asking why can't the other drivers go into Canada? No passport?
My son has an interview with our local DPW next tuesday; if that doesn't pan out he's most likely going to werners next month.

The reasons people cant go to Canada.
    1. Most people do not want to for some reason so they lie and say they have no birth certificate and refuse to get a passport.
    2. They do not allow long nose trucks in canada (aka freightliner classic etc.) and these make up 1/2 of werners fleet.
    3. I believe if you have ever had a felony you can't go but im not sure.
    4. Also owner operators that work for werner cant go because there trucks do not have speed limiters on them.

I worked 5 years for werner and left to raise my young kids after buying a home. I worked local these last 7 years and my kids are out and I re-applied to werner. The economy I suspect is why I was told they are not hiring in my area- high desert (Fontana-closest terminal)

It was bound to happen. Werner finally filled up ALL the hotels in SW Omaha with trainees waiting for trucks, and the remaining hotels in the metro area finally said "enough is enough". The Werner shuttle fleet between hotels and terminals probably has more miles right now than the trucking fleet. Freight is still way down for them, turnover is getting even worse because of all this, and the beat goes on. Somethin's gotta give!

I am in Fontana, Ca right now waiting for my trainer. I came in on tuesday on bus and wed my orientation started and I finished yesterday.

3 people left from the class before me and there was 21 in my class and 7 in the next class.

Some people have already been assigned a trainer, I want non smoking so it will take me a lil longer probably.

They seem like a good company, everything has been good so far.

They put me up in the hotel, the only thing that i was like wth, was that they want us to stay in the hotel room untill we get a trainer....

    AHHHHH no way... LOL
