Maybe some of you drivers can help me make a decision. I used to pull reefer, but made the change to flatbed a few years ago. The way freight is going for flatbed right now has caused me to decide to hang-up the skateboard and pull a reefer again. I have job offers from Marten and Hirschbach. Maybe some of you drivers that have worked for either of the companies can help me decide which carrier to go to.:biggrin_2551:

I'm currently leased on to Hirschbach and things aren't looking so hot right now. A few months ago they dropped our pay from 75% to 66% on Midwest Regional and went to straight mileage pay for all other divisions. .92 pm I think. Also, they haul mainly pork and the bottom has fallen out due to the swine flu scare. I'm on a dedicated run right now and we are even dead. If you go company driver you don't need to worry about percentage pay, but you won't be getting the miles. Backhauls are the major problem, even without pork going belly up... Get it, porkbellies....nevermind. Hope this helps.

Sorry, been off the board for awhile. I've been here a little over 2 yrs. Only reason I'm still here is I'm trying to get this truck paid off. I have a little over 10 months left and will be struggling the whole way I think. I'm not happy at all, but I'm looking at the future. I never drove company but it doesn't matter. They don't respect good drivers here, they want a fleet of lease purchase drivers that think 600.00 a week is good $$ for an owner op. I would never recommend them to anyone.

Dont go to Hirschbach unless you go company. I still work for them but have found out that the lease contract I have with them isnt worth the paper it is written on. In one part they have a place to sign for POA. In the state of Nebraska a POA has to be witnessed by two people. Mine is not. They also have an eskrow fund which is ok but they also have a full service matience fund which is not explained in the contract. When they were asked about it they said it was for repairs(Isn't that what an escrow fund is for?)and at the end of your lease the money left in your FSM fund is not returned to you. It goes into an account for the other drivers. On an average they take about $250 per week. So on a three year lease that is a total of $39000.00. Our attorney has found that they are in breech of contract.

BeerHauler and Saddle Tramp Thank this.

Martens freight is picking up . Apu's with inverters on trucks. Pre plan alot. Average 2500 mi week. Get you home when you want. Take route you prefer. Fuel only at pilots. Dont accept load unless can get it there on time. Can take truck and trl home, or just bobtail, but must park in front of the house . Do not park it at the local truck stop. Do not use tractor to run around town while on hometime. If you live within 75 miles of terminal, cant take truck home. Must take the per diem pay.

    Saddle Tramp Thanks this.
