I am enrolled in a truck driving school, and will be looking for my 1st job in a few weeks. I also understand that I need to gain some experience before I can land a better trucking job down the road. Can anyone recommend a good company to start with? Thanks.

Might want to try this in the "Motor Carrier Questions" or "Discuss Your Favorite Trucking Company" forums. :)

Your best choice IMHO, based on location would be GTI. Now, i personally would be looking into local log hauling, if available. But thats me.
    Regardless, best of luck bubba.

Breaking into the trucking industry will test your Marine Pride. Despite what the trucking schools are advertising, not many reputable companies are hiring drivers fresh out of school. The dirt bag outfits (don't confuse that with small) are always looking for new bodies to sling on the Merry-Go-Round.

Unfortunately, the Truck Driver Training Schools are not much better than Mega Carrier Recruiters when it comes to things like honesty and integrity.

The ads these schools are running are disservice to the students and waste of government "re-training" money.

With that said, you are gonna have to beat the pavement. Good luck.

Gar is right. However, companies DO take note of previous military experience. Most will ask if you are a veteran on their apps, and say they give veterans preference as long as they meet the minimum reqs.

The "best" company to start with? Might as well ask who makes the best truck or blonde vs brunette. Everyone is going to have their own opinions. Your best bet is to read a lot of different stories and then form your own opinion.

In today's state of trucking, none of 'em!:biggrin_255: You could do worse than Gordon, especially given your location.
