I haven't had the same experience. I got a set-in-stone orientation date of Oct 28th when they accepted my app, information, etc. Have never been told otherwise, or to check in regularly to ensure I'm still scheduled.

I went to orientation with them a year ago. Recruiter said I should call her a week before start, then the thursday before (Bus tickets were for Saturday).

No problems at all with that - the down side was, I was roomed with a driver who was off the road for a week because he had a *real* bad case of the flu. Made my stay a bit uncomfortable, and made the week after I went home a bit.. uncomfortable.

The classroom was about what you would expect. They provided a little extra training (powered pallet jacks) that I'd never run across before. Everybody was pleasant and professional.

I got good grades on my backing.. but totally screwed up my road test. They told us all before we went out that certain things were an 'automatic fail'. So, the first thing I did was one of those magical things.

I probably could have asked for a re-test. A number of other drivers did - but for personal reasons, I did not. (it was not a particularly good week for me)

They gave pretty good instruction on the reefers, now that I think on it - from how to set temps to how to prime the fuel pump. (All stuff I'd worked out for myself with my previous employer, but it was good to discover that I was right)

All in all, the orientation was a positive experience.

Lurch you had a better orientation class than I did. There are still things I am learning out here that I feel should have been covered by either orientation or the trainers. Thats a situation that it "is what it is" One of the big ones that I still need to learn is how to throw these danged chains I am carrying if I ever have to.

You know lonewolf, I have driven almost 13 years and never once threw chains. I always felt if it was bad enough I needed chains it was bad enough for me to wait it out. Especially if your still early on in your driving career.

I agree with ya Biscuit I don't want to throw them, but I am seeing them as a tool to get me out of a situation and just get me far enough to be in better condition (like from the side of the interstate without much grub to a truckstop lol).

Well that worked out well!

My husband will not be going to orientation. The recruiter let it get to the day before, and then said sorry.

So now he has no job and I am on lay off, I have no idea where to look for another job for him as he has been off the road for 5 years as of january any suggestions would be much appreciated.
