| Need advice.. Recent Grad can't get job OK I finished the CDL School and recieved my CDL Class A on Sept 28.... I got a road test with a local company and it went well. The deciding guy said that I did really well but he gave it to the other guy because he was on unemployment and I have a small country convience store.( which my wife is going to take care of so she doesn't have to go out to work and stay with the kids) I put in another app at another local company and they said they were going to hire 20 drivers... and probably take 2 recent grads. Well out of the 300 some apps they got my app made it to the final 30. I call when they told me to call back and they tell me they can't hire me since one of their trainers quit and the other wasn't accepting any trainees and that their insurance wouldn't allow them to hire me without any experience without a training program. So.. I called every trucking company I could find only to find out that they will not hire recent grads.. it first started out they wanted at least 1 year.. and then it went to 2 years experience. I was staying away from werner and swift because of all the negative stuff that is on here about them. I did apply at werner and was accepting pending me sending in my 3 years of tax returns showing that i was self employed. I guess my question is.... Is this because of there being so many other drivers out there that have the experience and needing jobs? or is it the insurance companies making it harder for the companies to hire with no experience. Thanks for any advice. |

| It's because there are to damn many drivers for the amount of jobs available. Plus from the way I read your post you are wanting a local job? Good luck with that.

| but they're all asking the same question. that was my point. sorry, but do any of the new guys read any of the posts on here which already pertain to their question? maybe they could include this question in a FAQ section somewhere. "I went to truck driving school because I was laid off in ____ _____ industry, thinking it would be easy to get an easy job making big bucks. I didn't do any research before I went to driving school and I'm just now finding out that trucking companies have laid off thousands just like every other industry. I'm now out $$$$$ and can't find a job. what should I do?" answer - no one on here can do anything about the fact that trucking companies aren't hiring. you're NOT the only one in that boat. sorry. you'll just have to get in line with the other (how ever many hundreds of thousands it is) drivers who are trying to find another job, as well as the thousands of students that the trucking schools are squirting out every month. |

| Your would think that the local unemployment office, would do a better job an informing potential students, that the trucking industry is not the best place to start. When I was laid off the government said they would front $3000 dollars for training in any field I wanted. Problem was that truck driving was the only one that fight in their allowed price.. All other's I have looked at wanted any where from $10,000-$20,000 for training..
