Tank Truck PA Student Driver Looking for Work.

Hello Folks.
Well I started my class A training last monday and i'm starting to look for an employer now, so I have something to go to when i'm finished with class.

I've already put in applications with a few companies. (TMC, H.O. Wolding, Covenant).

I'm looking for something that's going to get me home every weekend, or something close. Also a place that actually hires students and offers some on-the-job training and a decent pay rate. Somewhere in the neighborhood of $30,000+ per year.

Does anybody know of a good company hiring student drivers in eastern Pennsylvania that offers a decent pay?

$30,000 a year, good luck with that, lol.I hope your not getting into trucking for the money,if your are,STOP!Its not good time right now to get into trucking. There are companies out there just gotta find the right one.You do know that what ever company you go to,your going be out with a trainer at lease 6 weeks. Some companies like werner do let you go home for one week after 3 weeks on.You dont make money being home every weekend. As a newbie, your going have to be out at lease 2-3 weeks at a time. Also dont look into local yet until you get at lease 12 months experience. You may make $30,000 during your 2nd year but not your first.

30K is what I was seeing from most of the company websites. Maybe i'm naive for believing what I read on a website, but all I can do is go by what I see. I'd appreciate it if you'd save your "lol"s.

Am I getting into trucking for the money? How many people do you know that don't work for money? If I could do whatever made me happy and still made money, i'd be out in the woods with a deer rifle. But that's not going to happen, so i'm going with something that I have the capacity to do, and make a living while doing so.

If I don't get home as often as i'd like, so be it. I'm just trying to find something that i'm going to be happy with and not waste a year or two of my life being miserable. You know, that old "pursuit of happiness" line.

Just making a point, most people get into trucking think there make BIG money.Yes we all work to make money who doesn't.Like I said before $30,000 your first year not going to happen, jusy trying give you an idea about what your getting into.Everybody wants good hometime, heck I even like being home every weekend but like we say,'if the wheels are not turning, your not making money'.

Did you apply with Crete? It looks like you live right next to their Macungie terminal. They do hire students but you need to get over a 90% GPA in a PTDI certified school. Try to get all the endorsements you can. Crete requires the hazmat but tanker and doubles will allow you to apply to more kinds of operations.

Good Luck with finding a company that will take you being a student... I went through a training school got my cdl everywhere i have been has told me their insurance requires at least 1 year experience. and even another company told me to go to werner or swift and stay at least a year and come back. I have applied to every company that I have heard is decent and all give me the same answer. I did get approved from Werner but I think I am going to wait until at least after the first of the year if I do end up going with them. Right now I got a job as a yard jockey until I can find something better. Hope you have better luck than I have so far
