I went and visited with the guy that runs Weatherd College's (TX) driving academy. I like what he had to say and he should be able to get me through the program using a state grant that he offers.
He said the school is 160 hour course. It gets the CDL w/ tanker, double and I believe he said HazMat endorsments. Said normally 2 or 3 to a truck with plenty of drive time. Normally 10-15 guys in a class. Nice equipment and they even have a tanker to pull.
It's $2900 and that includes everything (DOT physical, permit, CDL, etc).
Anyway, are there any questions that I need to be asking him about the course?
One thing that I dont like is as of right now if you go through the state grant, you have to drive for Werner, Swift or TransAm. He said that he has a conference call in the morning with the state and is trying to get that restriction lifted.
I know there is so much negative about Werner and Swift. I havent read up on TransAm yet. If worse comes to worse and you have to drive for one of these three companies, which would it be?
Thanks for any help!

the way the economy is right now, any job after CDL school is a good thing! i would think that a carrier like FFE out of Lancaster would be looking to grab students from the school you mentioned
