I have been lerking on this site trying to read all I can about CR England... WOW! There are a lot of posts and most of them are leading me to believe that this company is not well thought of.

Supposedly CRE is running a Troops to Trucks or Troops for Trucks (not sure of the right title) program. I'm being told by the employment department that CRE is offering free training to veterans. I called CRE and a lady told me that it is indeed free and there is no catch... I'm suspicious of this.

Supposedly the deal is that you pay a $50 fee and everything is paid for and there is no obligation to stay after training. Again, I smell something funny.

    Any thoughts?

Your BS detector is in fine working order. I CRE says no catch, than you can believe that there is a VERY BIG CATCH. Yes, CRE is not well thought of by any body here at all, and it is very well deserved. Keep searching, If you are a vet thank you for your service. Many of the trucking CO's today offer vet programs.

I'd call Schneider National. They, and others, have programs tailor-made for veterans. From the vast majority of the posts I've read about CRE, I've formed the opinion that they leave a lot to be desired!

Your GI Bill will cover your training into most any field...or use the college payment fund for the Community College accredited course for truck driving...do some research, or go to the VA Benefits rep closest to you and get the real story...don't trust any "employment service" and this includes the states unemployment securities department.

The more I read about the trucking industry, the more I want to stay away from it. I’m not implying that it’s a bad job or that I feel some sense of entitlement.

I briefly worked in an office that brokered freight. To say that some of those guys would do anything to screw you would be an understatement. I also learned that I hated being trapped in an office.

After I left, I landed a job that trained me for a class B license. The only expense I incurred was paying the licensing fees. The job rocked! I felt truly blessed. I was recently laid off, but, I am in line to return when things pick up.

I’m torn. I love driving. Although I know we all need to start somewhere, I just cannot see myself being away from home for days or weeks on end. And I cannot imagine living the nightmares that some people have posted. I know that a good percentage of it should be taken with a grain of salt. But my past experiences tell me to heed the input.

I truly have a desire to get a class A license. I guess the bottom line is that I just don’t want to be taken advantage of.
