I just wanted to do a little write up on TDI (Truck Driver Institute) in Forsyth, GA. I just finished my 154 Hour course there and couldn’t be more pleased.

I haven’t seen any other real write up on this school so here’s my 2 cents.
Again, I couldn’t have been more pleased with the professionalism and Knowledge of the instructor’s there. There wasn’t a Single Instructor there that didn’t have 25+ years or more experience in the trucking industry and many many years’ experience teaching. I went there with no knowledge of trucking. I’m a former Bounty Hunter and never drove anything like a tractor trailer in my life.

Everything was a graduating situation, each week graduating to the next step and if you weren’t ready they didn’t force you into the next step.
First week of School was classroom, spent two days going over all the content to prepare you for the CDL permit test. Once you passed that it was class work on Log Books, D.O.T. Rules and regulations and trip Routing. Once you were comfortable with that you moved on to the range and some road driving.

The Range Instructor Ronnie is got to be the one of the best there is. He could do things with a tractor trailer that I didn’t even think was possible. He was one of the best instructor’s there in my book. But again they were all great.

You spend as much time as you need on the range, doing maneuvers over and over till you get them down pat. Also, you get to spend a lot of time out on the road putting you into different situations that you will encounter in the real world. Interstate, busy streets, small two lane roads, downtown areas, you name it. Of course it’s a progression to each of these; you start out on a large 4 line with median out in the middle of nowhere to make sure you can get the hang of shifting and controlling the tractor trailer.

I have to also give props to the Office personal, they are great people that really work with you and for you to make sure you get every opportunity there is for pre-hires and making sure you have what is needed.

I had doubts going in because I haven’t had any experience and before going there I could barely backup a trailer or boat for the life of me.

They don’t sell you pipe dreams or give you a lot of false a hope in thinking you are going to be the next “Ice Road Trucker” School is just the first step to give you a “heads up” on everything, the time you spend with your first company will be the one you get your real training with.

Anyways, Top notch School in Forsyth Georgia and I thank everyone there for what they have showed me.

Its $5995.00 if you do Financing with them or $4995.00 if you pay upfront. its a little high but the selling point on it to me was not having to sign a contract with any one company. they have you put in about 12 applications to different ones and get pre-hires from them. With them having no obligation to any one trucking Company was a good thing for me.

Wow that's alot of cost. I am amazed you paid that much, espceialy since you live
in Georgia. My son is now in his third week of training at Griffin Technical College. He will train for 10 full weeks. My cost for his traing was less than $300.00. Why because of this thing in Georgia called a Hope grant, provided by the Ga. lottery. That's right twice the traing for pennies on the dollar for what you paid.

Thats awesome and I'm sure it works for alot of people, but not everyone can qualify for a grant. I am simply stating what my experience was nothing more nothing less. Best of luck to your Son.

    Qualifications for the grant
    high school diploma or G E D
and reside in Ga. for one year. And that's it. I think you have one in
Macon too. Mid Ga tech or something like that with all the same benifits you had.
