Well like the title says, I'm sitting in the parking lot about to start my first day with Road Masters out here in KCMO. It anyone would like to hear about my day to day doings out here go ahead and post here. Would be worth it to even give one curious person an idea of what it's like here.

First day was pretty simple, the trainers seem nice enough. The week one trainer so far tells it like it is, he admits upfront that their job is to get you a class A and a job, learning the ins and outs of driving is the jobs job.
Aparently Roadmasters has chosen to make the KCMO location their "poster child" school. New trucks, trailers and all the fixins.... We'll see.
Today was general knowlegde, tomorow is DoT physical, drug testing, air brakes and filling out applications for prehires.

Day two was more of the same, learning the basics of truck driving on paper. Today (day 3) we're starting training on pretrips and taking computer courses. Permit day is tomorow in the morning and aparently we'll be driving around that afternoon. Anyone have an opinion on TransAm out in Olathe Kansas, or Roehl? Those and USA are some companies that i'm looking at, though, I'm applying everywhere I can just to get a stack of prehires I hope.

I've currently been with T/A for 3 years now. Not a bad company to work, my opinion. One great thing about them is that they get you home on time, when you request to be off and a major plus for you if you went there, no long bus ride to orientation. Good luck, whatever you decide to do.

Free advice: Don't just get hired. Check if a company has freight going to or thru where you live because it may not matter to you now but,it will some day.

Well week 1 is down. Got my permit now so next week I'll be in the yard driving around and starting my strait backing practice. Started with a class of four, and only had two at the end of the day. One guy's credit didn't work out so he had to bail, the other just honestly didn't need to be in this industry. I am by NO means an expert in ANYTHING truck related, though I can draw a mean strait line in a log book, but I'm kind of glad he decided to walk away when he did. I did not want to do my road training in the same truck as him. Everything so far is going great. The trainers, especially Brad (week 1 class trainer) are very nice and informative. Had a Werner and Roehl rep roll through today. Both seemed nice and made their companies look wonderful, and that's their jobs now isn't it. Was kind of amusing though. The Roehl recruiter was writing stuff on the black board. The first thing he wrote was www.thetruckersreport.com! He bragged what a great informative tool this forum is, and was confident that this site would backup our decision to give his company a run. Had to have a laugh with him after his presentation about that one hehe. Got a prehire from USA Truck today, and turned in 5 more applications so i hope that number goes up.
Not sure what more to toss up here, everything is moving at a good pace, and hopefully I won't grind too many gears on Monday. If anyone has any questions about schools in general, or Roadmaster KCMO please let me know and I'll do my best to help you with the limited knowledge I have.

Oh, anyone have any dirt on Roehl I can link to the recruiter hehe.

Congratulations -/+! Keep up the good work. BTW, you'll be hard pressed to find much dirt on Roehl. If Swift doesn't turn out to be a good fit for me, I'll be knocking on Roehl's door, Watkins Shepard too! I'll have to move to get into their hiring area, but it might just be worth it after I get some miles and some good experience. Good luck!

Got my 2nd prehire E-Mail yesterday for Werner. All in all a productive week for me I think, can't wait for Monday when I actually get to hop in a tractor and tool around the lot. Yea so far I've yet to see a lot about Roehl around here, so hopefully I'll have a prehire fax waiting for me when I get back to school on Monday hehe.
