Training for Raider Express
I have just recently started my training at Raider Express out of Ft. Worth, TX. I will post how it goes as time allows. For those who are interested.
Raider has contracted with Continental Truck Driving School out of Dallas. All the schooling is done at Raider Express in Ft. Worth.
The instructors have been very helpful, and in the first week I have passed all required tests for the Texas DPS.
The schooling is 4 weeks after which, i am going to go on the road with a trainer from Raider Express for 28 days. After that time I will have my own truck, and hopefully be making some money.
Day 1 was on a Monday, and consisted of meeting Earle, our first instructor, and learning the basic outline of the course. Filling out all the paperwork for Continental, and getting a physical. After lunch and reading the CDL handbook from the DPS, we took a practice test for the CDL permit to see what we needed to work on.
As a side note, We learned how our schooling would be paid for. There is no out of pocket expense. After we start riding with our training driver, we will be paid $0.10 a mile for every mile the truck runs. The first $300 will go back to the school through a payroll deduction. After that, there will be a $75.00 deduction every week until the school is paid off. Plus after 6 months, Raider will contribute an extra .03 a mile to help pay the tuition.
At the end of day one I am ready to take the permit test and go on from there.
Hopefully someone will enjoy reading this.

Well once you get out on the road be ready for a real shock. Maybe 2000 a week. Get a dvd player and be ready for a lot if sitting and waiting. this past week set about 31 hours waiting to be unloaded or a load. Raider don't pay for you to sit.
Have went o deliver and was within FTW zip code. So I set for 8 hours and got paid NOTHING for it.

Day 2
Well today was productive, sort of. After reviewing the permit practice tests we went to the DPS and took the actual permit test. All 4 of us passed. Studying tonight to get ready for the next 4 tests I have to take.
BTW, there were 2 guys in class this morning that got to go drive today. I can't wait.

I never had a problem with not getting paid wait time with them. When I was there in 2007 wait time was $12.50 a hour after two hours. If I took a load within Dallas Fort Worth area I would ask to get paid $12.50(wait time wages) a hour while delivering that load because you cant make no money delivering locally when getting paid by the mile. Same for if they asked me to go get a trailer from Excel(Cargill now) in Friona, Tx and take it to Swift(JBS now) in Cactus, Tx would ask to get paid by the hour instead of miles. The only complaint I had while driving with them was their 60MPH(hazards as I call them these days) trucks and their no idel rule. Sorry but this guy aint freezing in Colorado in the winter and ain't becoming baked in Houston in the summer. Overall it was a okay company.

I know how they all work. But if you don't speak up they will act like they forgot.
