Hi . I have been researching on this site for a few days . going for my CDL , i checked out Southwest Truck Driving School here in Phoenix . i like what they had . my biggest question is , should i do a school , or go through Swift or one of the other " starter " companys .i will be going to SWift , tomorow just to talk to them and see what they have to say . yes i know the downfalls of that . quit before your year and you owe them the cost of in house school . Southwest has lifetime placement . and the cost is average i think . trying to complete my GED right now , i have worked as a painter , and construction the last 25 years , and i got hurt in 08 .so i never really needed my GED before , and i have done pretty good for myself . Southwest has a Ability Test if you dont have your GED. So new career choice . i have always loved trucks and the lifestyle of the open road that goes with it .
i think i just need some feedback .
    Thanks:biggrin_25514:

This subject has been discussed at length in this forum, I suggest you read through the archives.

A question not to overlook is - just how much in debt will I be if I drop out after, say, two weeks. Because an awful lot of people do exactly that.

"Placement services" means you get a list of truck companies that are newbie friendly. It's up to you to pursue employment. You will pay for school at a company, not directly, but with less cents-per-mile or payroll deducts. The advantage is no up front money. It's up to you. And you should know trucking is much more than just cruising down the highway, listening to tunes. Reminds me of Smokey and the Bandit (movie) from the 70's. They roll up to a warehouse to load up their hot load of Coors beer destined for Texarkana ?, but it doesn't actually show them loading it.
