    Best CDL school in DFW

Hi All, I've looked, but haven't been able to find much in the way of schools other than the bottom feeder "paid" training schools. Does anyone have any experience with any of the driving schools in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area? My wife and I are wanting to team drive together and are going to take our CDL training classes together. Thanks in advance!

I would disagree with this "bottom feeder" notion about paid-training as there are some good ones out there and I don't think it fair for prospective drivers to be turned off just because some of us have differing opinions.

In regards to you not being able to find much, here is a list of DFW schools, but I don't think there to be too much in FW.

Thanks for the links. By bottom feeder, I more was referring to the companies that are well known as a place to avoid, such as C.R. England and the like. There are plenty of good places for rookies to start that I've found so far, gotta start somewhere!

Just out of curiosity, what companies have "good" paid training (contract training) programs?

I remember Watkins and Shepard and Schneider National had good ones, but they are gone now...haha...so that probably doesn't help any. Sorry

There is ATDS part of the McLennan community college in Waco Tx. Its a pretty good school and they are PTDI certified incase you end up going with a company that requires it.

If your going to team, thats a whole new ballgame. Team trucks are dispatched to keep moving. Most companies love teams. especially husband and wife.
I teamed for Schneider for a while. That is one thing they can do is keep a team truck moving. I wouldn't solo for them.
There is also a truck driving school right there in Palmer, TX. C-1 is a dustbowl.

i went to the ffe school in ft worth . very good school somewhat fast pace and they only graduate around 50% of those who start , it never felt like a cdl mill to me --- they are all about safety and attitude ---if yu listen to them they will teach you -- there is a very long thread on here ( the new ffe driver academy ) that follows quite a few people through the whole process and is close to 2 yrs running--- they dont charge anything for the school but you have to sign up for a year commitment -- i made it through just fine and i am happy with things so far and my fiance is going to start in 2 weeks and we are going to run team --- i just havent heard hardly anything bad about the company from the other drivers which is rare in this industry --- after the 16 day school they send you to dallas for 2 day orientation and then put you on the payroll for $ 455 a week and put you out with a trainer for 6 weeks --so you guys will be seperated for that -- but then they would team you after that and start at $.38 a mile and they run you if you want should be in the $2,000 to 2500 per week to split --- teams useually are 85% drop and hook they dont sit you and they are based in dallas so you get home . for me i think i made a very good choice i drove in the past and i am very sceptical about trucking companys but they seem to be what they say --- if you go the private school route schnieder seems to be the easiest way to go for new teams they train you together for 2 weeks and then turn you loose --- i dont recomend this at all thats just not enough training -- i cant believe schnieder does it like that but they are desperate for teams--- and once your out there they treat you good -- and provided you dont kill yourselfs or somebody else till you get the hang of driving should be ok

    Noted.

Thanks for the replies everyone. We are looking at USX, Roehl, Schneider and Prime as our main choices based on our research.
