No need for trucking school Well, good news. I found a guy who rents out his truck and trailer to do the CDL test at the local Driver's license location. For $375 I can use his truck to take the test. I have already studied the material and confident that I will have all 4 tests completed along with my Hazmat endorsement by Monday and will take the skills test Tuesday. So for the low price of $375 plus $60 for the license and endorsement I can have my CDL class A. This is much better then spending 3 weeks in school for $3k for the same darn thing. Hope to have a job driving by the end of the week.

It will be hard to find a job with no school training behind you as notarps4me said. Why not just go to a company that offers training? sure some of them make you sighn a contract for a certain time you must stay with them, but you really should stay with your first company for a year anyways. This helps you learn the trucking Industry and helps you make the right decision where to go after that training company if you chose to do so. just my 2 cents Last edited by Truckerjo; 02.24.2007 at 10.59 AM.

as much as i hate to agree with monkey boy, i have to here. he is right. these companies look at training like it's gold for some odd reason. whatever you do stick with the first job for at least a year and try longer if you can...........

There are companies who will hire him, these guys must be talking about the bigger companies that's because most people only try to get hired at a big company, some of the smaller companies will hire him, I know many people who got their licence this way

Well most smaller companies as well require driver time behind the wheel. Most smaller companies have a harder time in getting insurance for new drivers. Not saying they all do because there are a few that will. Larger companies insure themselves therefor they seem to have the lesser restrictions. Last edited by Truckerjo; 02.24.2007 at 12.08 PM.

| The last local small company that I worked for had one requirement. Two years recent CDL exp. Reason, insurance reasons.

I can't go to a big company because they don't hire recent felons. So I figure that if I get my license myself I would have a better chance on getting a job without relying on the big companies.

There is another way to look at it. Without a school you have 2 strikes against you in a unforgiving industry.
