Hey guys, I heard really good things about TDDS and met a driver about a 6-months ago who went there. I was curious, even with FAFSA, how much the full course was?

In my opinion I think the school was a little over priced ($6345) with FAFSA, overall instruction might have been good, but the training equipment was old and beat up.

I have hauled hazmat constantly, and have been DOT'd once in over 4 years regularly hauling it, oh and it wasn't because of the hazmat. My wife who I run team with hauls hazmat just as much she has been had her hazmat endorsement checked once. The guys that say you are a magnet are over exaggerating and making excuses, my old man says the same thing! The choice is honestly yours, it just opens your options.

Thanks CRB, I'll keep it in mind.
As for TDDS, well, I finished another week on a good note and everyone is learning at a good pace and having some fun, too. Yes, the equipment is pretty beat up but if you can drive these old things and do maneuvers, road-test, etc in these ancient wrecks, imagine how well you can perform in a good piece of equipment. The instruction is great and we're getting some really good advice on how to correct ourselves when we screw up. It is expensive and drawn out a bit, but all in all I think it's a good school. A lot of people have already been pre-hired by many great names in the industry and will further train with them when we leave school. This school is definately NOT a CDL mill and they do care about their students. Looking forward to next week!

    Nick2001 Thanks this.

I went to TDDS a few years back, on a specialized program. One-on-one with an instructor for 40 hours (5 days). Started Monday, and by Friday had my Class A. Awesome people, and awesome job. I would recommend them to anyone looking to get the best training possible.

we hire out of that school and the students seem to be well prepared and do a good job. the biggest issue is getting used to living in a truck and the away from family issue

Thanks for the advice and responses everyone! Graduated and now in my externship with a big name company. Won't say who for now until I'm done but I will say that doing the real thing is far different than school. Still sooooo much to learn but it's all good. I'm learning with an intermodel driver and it's pretty neat. Home on weekends!
    More later....

I just finished my first 10 week training with TDDS and got my CDL license yesterday...

I have nothing but good things to say about the school. I paid for the training out of pocket... but luckily live within 1/2 hour of the school (so I didn't require housing). If you are like me, and have been in the military - unemployed, don't qualify for state training funds, don't qualify for GI-Bill or Post 9/11 funding - check out VRAP (Veteran Retraining Assistance Program) - it's paying me back for (most of) the cost of the training.

Since the school is accredited, you can get student loans - and the school has housing for those who live out of state, or don't want to commute.

If you check my blog, you can get more information / follow along... I'll be posting as I go.
Tentatively setup to go with Transport America in 2 weeks.
