I'm new to the trucking scene and I wanted to get some input from anyone that has some knowledge. I'm in the process of picking a trucking school to attend and I'm trying to get as much information as I can before I commit to one. For reasons that will take too long to explain, these are the only schools I can attend. Anyone who has an opinion about any of these schools, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Look at what companies you are wanting to work for and than make sure that they will hire someone from that school first. If the school is PTDI certified than you are probably safe, but it still wouldn't hurt to contact a recruiter first if in doubt.

I went DRM training. He only has 3-4 students at a time. The cost is reasonable @$3000. You are backing as a group but all your drive time is 1 on 1 time.

Because you will sign a contract with company and if you leave company before a certain amount of time, they may come after you for money for the training they gave you... nothing is free. Look for a community college that offers CDL training if that's available in your area. If you find one and you qualify it may cost you almost nothing. I got my CDL at community college in GA - the best one in the state - and everything, including books, DOT physical, road test, etc, etc was about $ 100.00. It was a 3 month program, very thorough, great instructors, lots of trucks, many instructors, lots of time to practice on the range, on the road... Go to the schools, see how many students per truck they have and get an idea how many hrs you will get on the range, road... that's very important. Find an accredited and certified school and like someone said, make sure the companies you want will accept that school. Good luck!

Hello tacomaruss, how did you like DRM? Are you driving now? I'm wondering if companies view DRM as an approved school as there is not very much info on this school but I like you like the fact that the class sizes are small. Thanks.

As has been mentioned, select the company(s) you want to work for and find out if they have preferred schools. Research those schools and get rolling. Also, the school should have a minimum 160 hours in the course, preferably... 200 hours.

    Good luck driver!

Most important is make sure the school is 160 hrs. Insurance companies require this in most cases. The school doesn't have to be expensive to be good. Pick a cheap one and get started.
