    1. Ferrari Driving School based out of Astoria, NY. I took a two hour tractor-trailer lesson in a Mack with a 48 foot trailer. The instructor told me I was the first person in 14 years to notice that the fuel gauge was not connected (broken). Riiiiiight. First guy in 14 years to spot that and say something--I doubt it. Furthermore, the instructor was ice cold. Refused to make eye contact or shake my hand when we met. The nicest feedback I got from him was "You're not the best or the worst I've had..." That tells me a lot. This is a "wheel-holder" school. God help you if you take your hand of the wheel to do anything for more than a split-second. My grade was "...better than average observation..."

    2. Let's Go Driving School out of Spanish Harlem, NY. The instructor was very knowlegible however the truck was crap. During the en-route inspection we found multiple oil leaks in pools on the pavement in the South Bronx. Moreover, the 1993 Mack 9-speed was jury-rigged by a "mechanic" so that 3rd and 4th gears are REVERSED. That's bad conditioning for a new driver. I had a splitting headache for the rest of the day. Even the instructor complained to the company mechanics that he is sick daily.

If you're in New York, I would honestly say look at NTTS in Liverpool, NY. They even have housing for people who arent in the area. They are a little pricey, but after a tour and see how the school was, I decided to join. So far, I'm loving it. Classes start every 3 weeks for Class A.

I would highly recommend Commercial driver Training in Long Island if your in that area. I went there in 1976 and they are still going strong today. Obviously not a fly by nite operation after 36 plus years in operation.

Indeed. The school I recommended has been in operation since 1971. Definitely check the accreditation of a school before spending money on it. :biggrin_25525:

Last time I called NTTS in Liverpool, NY wanted over $8,500.00 for tuition alone--the most expensive CDL school I know of. :whdat:

Depends on which course you picked. Advanced is around $9000. Regular course is under $8000. I've talked to people who've graduated one of those 2 classes who got good jobs. Depends on your situation, though. You do get a lot for your money, however. I've seen what they do in field and its quite amazing. The good thing with those two classes is financial aid. My heavy truck course had to be paid through myself, which was a total of $3000 for everything, including DOT physical/drug test and everything you'll need to get for the course.

I dont know your living and financial situation, so I couldn't really tell if its good or not. However, it does seem like alot. Best of luck on finding a school. :Lorry:

I could be wrong, but thats probably an old RTO 9 speed. They came from the factory with 3/4 and 7/8 in reversed positions. Anyone feel free to correct me.

Also avoid C1 out of Indiana. On a good note - I felt that the instructors knew what they were doing and were experienced truckers. However, three range instructors quit within 2 days of each other for better-paying jobs; and 3 trucks out of a fleet of 10 died ALL IN THE SAME WEEK. Their financing company REFUSED to work with me on a payment plan after I switched to another school; and the newest truck of the fleet was a 2002 Volvo with leaking air tanks which caused the air brakes to frequently lock up on us as we practiced our range maneuvers. But hey - discover the joys of NOT getting what you paid for on your own.

Did I mention that this school was a complete joke?
