cdl school pushing companys

do most trucking schools push certain companys? the one that i plan on going to (southwest truck driver training here in tucson,az) tries to push TMC and werner pretty hard i asked why they said "theyre the only 2 companys that take the time to come talk with the students" i was leaning toward schnieder but the school says they only hire teams out here and they gave me a list of companys that they do hire on's with i was wondering which of the companys would be better FFE crete marten gordon trucking or coastal transportation which is part of ComCar and MCT and MD transportation

Well now, just stop and think about it.

Who are the gatekeepers of the new driver supply for trucking companies?

My school instructor was a great guy, but I told him his subliminal messages WERNER, WERNER, WERNER were getting to me. He finally stopped. Though I have no personal experience with that company, 2 minutes into his presentation, the recruiter had me convinced that the company was not for me...

Do you think there are finders fees paid? I do.

I found out this about the school I am attending:

They get paid a flat 2500 for the students that get referred to them via CRST. But after they pass, make it with a mentor for 28 days, they get the remainder of 5995.

You do the math, the school pushes CRST like mad.

EDIT: BTW, WE GOT OUR CDL'S!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are truckers now

My hats off to anyone who can stand to drive teams for more then a year. I tried it when I worked for KLLM back in 92, but sleeping in a moving truck, and not being able to listen to the radio or CB so your partner can sleep, would have drove me crazy eventually, if I wasn't always so tired and wobbly legged from always being in a moving vehicle. Then you got the stress of hoping you wake up at all in the winter time running the mountains on 90, 84, or 70. I trust myself when I'm driving but someone else? Nope

The money seems to be worth it more now, then when I did it. But many don't acctually run a real team operation. They run what we solos at IDC used to call super solo. I hardly knew the person I drove with doing 7k miles a week at kllm. This is one of the reasons why USX started putting frieght on the rail at .65 a mile. They got tired of the husband and wife teams treating team driving like a chance to sightsee for free and missing p/u and delivery times. I have seen many knock down and drag outs at the terminal in OKC when some of these groggy and fed up teams come rolling into town.

If you want to make money driving teams, then you better be prepared to run and not ##### or your butt will end up on the B team pulling solo frt that is late picking up. Good luck

yea im not sure i could drive team even with my girlfriend im too much of a control freak to let anyone else be driving while im knocked out let alone sitting shotgun plus if you keep the truck running all the time 1 sleep 1 move you have what maybe 1-3 hours with the person you love per day i suppose its better than 1 to 3 days a month but still it dosent seem nearly as satisfying except in the wallet

thats what i was sorta thinking you know how if you recruit someone you get between 200-1000$ i think the companys are kicking that back to the school its the only reason that theyre promoting poor companys either that or they honestly dont know any better

Your main concern as a student driver should be surviving past the 90 days probationary period. I had a student when I trained for a couple years, who could not back to save his life. Kept over steering. I spent hours after hour at empty docks and ones with a few trailers and then one day he just got it and never had a problem afterwards. He was a great listner, never acted like a know it all and was not easily frustrated after making a mistake. I said to myself when he got off the truck, this guy will make it and I can count the bonus as money in the bank. Wrong, 1 month later he hit a jersey barrier, blew out a trailer tire and bent the rim. He got a ride on the grey dog and I lost my bonus.

seems like most schools I checked into before choosing, they all try to push certain companies. What I did even though the school I chose offers job placement(most all do), I filled out all my apps online with all the companies that interested me. I ended up getting about 12 prehires before ever finishing cdl school. some of the guys in my class still havnt heard from places "the school" sent their apps to.Also I am the only one out of 9 students that went to work right out of school. Moral of my story is dont trust anybody to do anything for you, if there is a company thats interests you, fill out a app online yourself. Dont set around waiting on the school to do it for you. Whos to say they even send your app out if its a company they dont make alot of $ from? Good Luck!!!
