Ok. So we're in truck driving school and the truck keeps breaking down. The first week went great. We all got our permit and the teacher was laid back and we all had fun. The next week, we started out OK but then we had to share the truck with the last class, to let them get one more practice in before they took their test. Then we were taken to the DMV to watch them take their tests. This took most of that day. We got about 2 hours of practice in total that day.

Then one morning the brakes were froze up. It took a couple hours to work on them so we could get some wheel time. Week 3 was pretty much lost since the truck broke down on Monday morning, and wasn't back until Wed late afternoon. We were "asked" to give up our weekend and came in on Saturday and Sunday only for the truck to break down again on Sunday! We still don't have a truck and this is our last week!:biggrin_2556:

Is this unusual for a driving school or are we just feeling odd cause it's happening to us? We are trying to have patience, but right now I would really like a refund AND my CDL so I can get to work. :biggrin_25513:

that is standard practice,i would be asking for my money back,i thought there was a 100hr driving requirment to get your actual CDL.you must be going to a small private driving school.

thats what happens when joe smith decides to open up a trucking school on a shoestring budget. it is unusual for a trucking school, but then its unusual to have one truck. you go to a tiny school for a cheap price, and you get what you pay for. not trying to sound like this is your fault, just disgusted at the joe smiths of the world who sell an inferior product. a decent school would have a contingency plan. trucks break down. you need to have an extra one available. if you train enough students to be running 3 trucks, then you need to have a fleet of 4 trucks minimum.

that being said, i dont think there is a court in the land that will force them to give you a refund IF they get you to the point where you get a cdl. would be helpful to other wannabes to know the name of this school, so they can avoid the substandard training you are being subjected to. i dont mean to say that all facets of your training is substandard, but not having a working truck is THING ONE on the priority list. sorry for your predicament, and i hope it all works out for you in the end.

We paid the same price that every other school in the state charges. So that didn't stand out to us while choosing a school. We also saw the stats on this school and they were well above others, and at the same level as most as far as student placement and such. We agree that they should have a back up plan and everyone in the class struggles to understand why they don't! Not having any prior experience in driving schools, we sure had no way of knowing what should be expected.

wasnt trying to imply you didnt do enough research into the school. i dont know you, and dont know what you did or didnt do. was only saying your school stinks, and that only based on what youve posted here. im sure sorry if you got out of my post that i thought you were to blame. that was not my intention at all, i swear. read my other posts, im not shy about telling someone when they are stupid. (start with the idiot friend of a poster that claims to have gone 100 mph in his truck. lol)

It's no problem. I was just clarifying. We called another school to see if it were possible to jump to them to finish our last week and unfortunately we can't. We are stuck to see this through. Just hoping we can get our CDL in the end and stop all this time wasting stuff. We need to get on the raod and start bringing some $ home!

ok good. i know i can be an opinionated **** sometimes, its one of the reasons the "alone" life of a trucker suits me. but i try to keep it shut off until its deserved, and wouldnt want someone to think i was being a jerk when i wasnt trying hard to let it show, lol. i really do hope you get through the school on time, and on to your career. yall know where you are going yet for your first gig?

depends on what you want outta trucking. home time, versus mileage, drive only or hard physical work. foodservice pays well and some companies hire with no experience, but you are unloading the truck every time you go out. unloading 50k lbs worth of french fries aint for everyone...wasnt for me...but the pay is 60k+ per year here for 4 days work per week.
my experience with starter companies is years old, and may be as bad as it is outdated. i worked for usa truck first job out, and they treated me well. 2850 miles per week+, no problems with home time, and decent equipment. but i went to the west memphis terminal within the 1st month or two and was terrified...there were a few drivers there talking about what a bad company it was and how they got no miles. i never saw it though. i had a bad week here and there, but a bad week was 2500 miles.
worked for conway truckload, and same experience pretty much, with better pay. not sure if they take newbies though.

the 3 companies id NEVER work for are cr england, crst, and swift. ive never worked for them, but things ive read make me think the 3 of them are crooks. cr england and crst are based on reviews (read 100, and ill bet more than 95 are negative). swift...google class action lawsuits and read about what they did to 9k students. and they now require drivers to log 30 minutes minimum for pretrips, and to log on duty while at shippers and receivers. they dont pay extra for it, which to me amounts to theft of services.

oh and i worked for marten too. no problems there either. rest of my time has been spent doing local work. im now looking at buying a truck, have done much research and continuing to do it. im an over thinker. took me over 2 years of research and paper trading before i invested real money into forex.
