I mainly used my college fund from the Army. So got thru school not owing anything. First year I didn't do so well. Made a rather poor choice in first company. I didn't want reefer, so went with a flatbed company that only paid 18.5 CPM. That was in '93, and not terribly less that companies from the Dakota where paying then, but still, I could have done better. I only made mid 20's that first year if memory serves correctly.

credit card 0% interest promo. 4 week course, started at 27 cents/mi plus $150/mo tuition reimbursement, up to 31 cents after 6 months, 34 cents after a year. Probably made around 30000-35000 first year.

After I worked more than any human should have to, I was given the chance to go get a Class A license. (old days cdl) Got it. Every junk job no one wanted. I learned everything I could. After 4 long years I went coast to coast. Got lost, but was never late, and 29 years later, I'm still learning. Been late once. Alarm clock didn't go off. I paid a big price for the love of being a trucker, would do it again. I help make America move.

Community college, $900 tuition / $100 books and miscellaneous. Two months to go before I complete my first year, but have been averaging $1K/week. I work for a company that has 2 trucks running spot market freight from load boards.

900 must be the cheapest I ever heard of. I am looking at 4600.

That's their in-state rate. Out of state students pay around $2600 if I recall correctly.

I did simply because if I'd of done it through a company I'd have been stuck there or ended up reimbursing them twice the cash amount to get out early if I didn't like the company. BTW If you are in Western WA, North Cross Commercial Driving school in Mt. Vernon rocks and has a great reputation with the DOT testers. There is another school with about a 50% first time pas rate while NC has about a 99%.
