Well, first week at SAGE is over...wife passed tests for her permit...was classroom only, all that preliminary class stuff, don't care for the book much as it seems to use a lot of outdated and misquoted information...good thing we know whats right and know how to look up the correct information...the one thing that really irritates me is that the chapters cover certain things and then the questions at the end have no relevance to trucking or are outdated as well....even the FMCSR test has a date of May 2006...really frustrating....our tests scores are good, but only cause we can weed through the outdated material and figure out what the author was really trying to ask....will be glad when it is over...ah, maybe I was expecting too much...

    First off, congratulations.
Second - I learned to reduce my disappointments in life by lowering my expectations!

Having your previous experience, this will probably be a little below your skill set. Good the wife has you there to sift through it all.

Heck - things have changed a bunch since May 2006!

    Hello,
I am the other half of negativecolds team and he told the short version of the story. I can't tell you how hard it was to not tell the instructor to leave the room he wasn't helping. I took red pen to my test and made correction to the bad information on it about the FMCSA regulation. I may not pass since they seem to have to use what ever corporate tells them the answer is suppose to be instead of what is correct. UGH!:biggrin_25512:

Not good - now the dilemma is to either put up with it to get it over with, or take your concerns up the chain .

Honestly, with the regulations we're supposed to keep up with and adhere to - SAGE should also. No point sending off qualifying students with 8 years outdated info.

Aaaah, the battles to pick . . .

You could convert the course cost to inflation adjusted 2006 prices and request a refund . . . . ;)

lol...I think they already caught wind of the issues...there was a different attitude about the way the test were handled with the questions that were miswrote or outdated...it will work out in the end, but I will ensure my critique goes to the top in order to better help the next class...in the mean time, I will share the correct info with whichever classmates want to listen...

I could understand if the lesson went a step further to see if anyone would figure it out that it wasn't current but they don't seem to care about anything except can you look it up. No instruction to the young ones that some of what they are learning has changed either. I hope the carrier gives us an updated copy but I have an electronic one down loaded and set-up for all the updates by email. I fear what it will do to one of those young men if they kill or hurt someone because they were given bad information in CDL school. That kind of trauma can ruin a mans life or at very least if they lose their license and are just disgruntled.
I will suck it up do it their way get that certificate that the carrier needs to hire us as 0-6 mo drivers and know that I have sole responsibility to know what I am doing.

Second week of school, still classroom but better. Have learned how to work around the misquotes and outdated stuff, so for now, I will just let it be. start drive time next week, not too worried about the driving. Got a couple new students this week, another husband wife team, and some solo's. yesterday after class a parts delivery pickup clipped the rear end of a tractors trailer due to not stopping at the stop sign, it was kind of ironic because we just had the accidents awareness class. at least no one was hurt. Filled out application for W/S last night. Will be filling out U.S.Express tonight or tommorrow, and ODFL, a few others. Seems to be a lot of new H/W teams migrating towards W/S, not sure what that is all about.Thats about it for today...you all take care

Well, here we go. Second week was pretty much same as first, different classes, better instruction...still some misquotes ans errors in the book and stuff, but we learned to work around that and have a pretty high average on all the classroom material...
So, today was our first day of driving...not to bad, since I have some experience my instructor took me through town, I didn't panic, but missed a few gears(which I didn't think was possible when you are only rolling at 35mph), figured out what I was doing wrong and corrected the problem. Main thing was downshifting, but I think I have a better understanding of that, now. I was a little nervous and couldn't believe how the four wheelers had no regards for the truck. Tommorrow is backing practice. Early morning, so I am off to bed...
