Hey everyone I'm new here and I realize this isn't the intro area so Ill keep that to a minimum. According to my recruiter at MTC Truck driving school U.S. Xpress has sponsored me for my training in exchange for a 12 month contract. She told me I am pre hired for USX. So I have a couple questions. What can I expext from MTC in St. Louis? Am I guaranteed a job with U.S Xpress as long as I get my CDL? What can I expect to make after getting away from my trainer? Is USX a good starter company?

    Chinatown Thanks this.

I would ask some serious questions about being locked in to USX.
USX is OK if you want to run teams, otherwise tell the recruiter you want another company. My guess is they plan to force teams on you or stick you with some dedicated run where driver turnover is extremely high due to the nature of the work and low pay.

Ask about other companies that use that school such as TMC and Hogan and Stevens Transport.

Here's a quote from their website: "Our schools are also fortunate to work with several trucking companies who will help pay for your CDL training. Agreeing to work for one of these companies will not only help you qualify for a tuition loan, the companies will actually pay the majority of the loan for you! "

Unless you want to spend the next year either running teams or unloading your own truck every day, then force the recruiter in a corner about other companies.

Schneider Bulk division (tanker) might even pay your tuition at MTC; call a Schneider recruiter and ask. You will make real good money there; much more than with USX.

All you need is $500.00 for Millis Transfer and Witte Bros. CDL school.

Witte Bros. school is in Troy, MO

Millis Transfer drivers average $50K per year.

Both good companies with good paychecks.
Millis runs Eastern half of USA and TMC runs 48 states.
Millis has their own CDL school and TMC does not.

LOL....that simply isnt going to happen.

Maybe experienced drivers but no company is going to pay a student under contract that much. Maybe 1/2 that much, if they are lucky.

OP, stay away from contracts.....you will be broke and you will quit. Companies grind students under contract into sawdust. You will leave this industry bitter, broke and with a damaged DAC that will black ball you from the industry.

Pony up the cash and pay for your own training and work for a real company that cares for their employees and pays them what the are worth.

Saying Willis and TMC in the same breath is just wrong. If you can do flatbed, which isnt for everyone, TMC is probably the best company in the country that will hire student drivers.

Just to let you know this MTC is one of the worst cdl mills in this country. You'll be spending most of your time watching other students drive than being in the front seat yourself. Look up MTC at the better business bureau they usually have lots pending cases. Theres lots of community colleges around St.louis u could can attend. Theres a good program at fort scott community college that only charges 2000. T
