    It is official.

I leave for Cedar Rapids Iowa for CRST sponsored cdl training this weekend. Class begins on 9-1-2014.

YEs, I know the "reputation" of CRST in general is not favorable.

But with limited options, and already turning down another school (MTC), I needed to do something in order to start my new career. My former scumbag of a boss payed under the table and straight pay, so proving my employment to some other schools/ employers just wasn't working. So with my limited choices, CRST, no money out of pocket, 8 month commitment....yeah, I can make that sacrifice so I can move onto bigger and better employment in the future. The Frack sites here in PA all require 1 year of OTR experience, that is the goal is to gain local Frack Site work a year from now, have a guy at my church who is the field manager for a dozen or so frack sites and told me to get my year, and give him a call. His drivers make 24-30 bucks an hour plus overtime....I can suffer for a year if that is the payout at the end of the tunnel so to speak.

I will try to keep this post updated as often as I can, to keep people informed of the good, bad, and other.......as far as training goes.

Got all my packing done, today is thursday, bus leaves saturday morning.......just killing some time between now and then........

Good for you. Don't worry what others have to say...you're doing what you have to do and I respect that. Best of luck to you. I am looking forward to your updates.

Isn't their pay around .23 split miles? If willing to work for that little amount of money why not at least go somewhere like stevens or srt and make .26 to .31 respectively. ?

I am in the same boat amd need a company to train me so I don't have to shell out 6k for school but there are better options OP.

Perhaps, CPM isn't his main concern?

You're obviously not in touch with reality. You can drive your own car around the country in a tiedie shirt asking for money at the pumps with the rest of the hippies and probably make more money than at crst

I looked at stevens....however since I was paid under the table, proving my previous employment with them (Roehl, Prime, Millis, KLLM, Stevens, Central) was no good. Central had me sign some waivers and affidavits, but eventually turned me down when my scumbag former boss would not verify my employment.......So I was Limited as to where I could go, I was not eligible for any financial aid at the local schools, and paying anything more than maybe 3 or 400 out of pocket was going to be a stretch......

So CRST took me, my recruiter already had HR do my employment verification so that there are no "issues" once I get to orientation. HAd to send a notarized affidavit stating the nature of my former employment and have someone with me who could verify it....both signed....notarized...and CRST accepted.

I am looking long term, not short term. Yes, ok, its slave labor wages for a while....I am not happy at all about that, but I get a CDL and experience.....and I need one year of experience. I am looking long term not short term here, this is a means to an end, 1Year now, for 20 later.

Did you try celadon and srt? Celadon pays I believe .18 for all miles driven and is easy to get into. SRT also seems easy to get into.

I worked there for about a year and a half before moving on. CRST is what it is...a training company. You're not going to get rich; you're not going to be staying in the Taj Majal during your training. You're there to get your CDL and get your foot in the door with some experience under your belt...it is nothing more than that and it sounds like you already understand that. The best advice for you is to communicate with your recruiter. If something isn't going right, if you're struggling, hell, if you miss your family...go talk to your recruiter. Let them help you through the process. Get trained and on a truck...the 8 months does go by pretty quickly and then you've got options up the wazoo. CDL's are gold right now. Best of luck.
