Schneider Bulk (tankers) has a good program. They pay for private CDL school.
Will your VA benefits pay for CDL school or have you been out too long?

Swift. When I got home from Vietnam and got out of the Army I was spit on and vilified for my entirety voluntary service. Almost 40 years later I started with Swift through their academy when it was in San Antonio. The first day doing paperwork I was asked if I had my DD-214. When I produced it, the person (ex-Navy) came to attention, rendered a crisp hand salute and became the first person in all those years to say, "Thank you for your service and welcome home. "She then told me I was to get a $1000 discount. I care not for any of the negatives, mostly uninformed, anyone has to say about Swift. I retire in five years and will consider no other company.

Melton, Maverick, Con-Way Truckload, and TMC participate in the apprenticeship program. I'm a soon to be Army veteran and will be using this program as well.

You also have Crete, This is the one that I am strongly looking at. Their trucks all have APU's, you start out at 38CPM as a new grad and they are VA approved for their apprenticeship program so you get the BAH stipend. I have my decision spread between Crete and Schneider.

Others that I have seen as well are TMC (Flatbed), Melton (Flatbed), Maverick (Flatbed), Schneider (All Divisions but depends on what they are hiring for in your area), Swift (Van), Knight (haven't looked in to all they have but know they have the military transition program)

Also make sure you look into how much your payment will be from the VA. It does NOT go off of where you live, but rather where the company files their "Headquarters" or mailing address with the VA is at. So for instance if a company is headquartered in Miami (normal BAH is 1800/mo) you will max out at the 1265 I think it is/ month. For Schneider I think it is only 800 or so.

Another thing too that most do not know before going and the recruiters do not tell you, is how the apprenticeship works. If it is a 2 year approved program you have to have 24 months of GI bill prior to starting, than for the first 6 months you receive 100% of the payment amount, 2nd 6 months 75%, 3rd 6months is 50% and the last 6 is 25%.

If it is a 1 year program it goes down every 3 months. I have also found out that Schneider takes an average of 3 months to file & perform their initial certification of apprenticeship benefits and Crete it is about 4-5 weeks. I have been doing a crap ton of homework on military friendly companies. Now some do some cool things in appreciation on top of decent pay, like TMC gives you a veterans decal on the side of your truck with the branch of service you came from.

lcfd, i was looking at Crete but i didnt see anything regarding the apprenticeship program..I only have about 9-10 months left on my gi bill..So can i still do their programs? I got a back from Millis, and Schneider..Gotta email millis some paperwork ie dd214 ect..Also waiting for Schneider to call me back..I was looking at Crete but again i didnt see anything about an apprenticeship and only saw where they only take people with at least 3 months experience i think it was..
