I have decided to go to this school, however I have a question that could be best answered by a person that did complete this program.
Part of the fees they charge is a fingerprinting fee (in addition to the DMV costs and DOT physical cost) for the HazMat endorsement. Does anyone know if this is the same as, comparable to, or acceptable to the TSA for purposes of the HME and TWIC?

Is the fee $86.50? If so, it probably IS the TSA Threat Assessment fee.
-
I did the math and it was $87.00, which seemed odd. I copied the original message and posted it to the school's facebook page.
-
I paid 86.50 for my threat assessment for my HazMat last month and paid I think it was 128 for my TWIC.
-
That is the information I got.... It just seemed a little too close to be more than a coincidence. What I learned is that the school cuts a check and sends the student to the TSA to do the HME.
I now have to go and get a new copy of my birth certificate (it was among the things that my ex-wife claimed were lost and never returned after I told her where they were) because they need it for this process, since I do not have a passport and they won't accept a DD214 for this with photo ID and Social Security card... I guess I need to prove I was born..... -
I think I lucked out... my class size is THREE (and one of them is only going to be with us for the first week as it is a refresher)... For the total 160 hours... I doubt very seriously that I won't fail.
I do have to go back to DMV for an updated H6, but I won't be doing that until Friday while the class is not in session. I will be busy:
1) DMV for the H6.
2) County recorder's office for new birth certificate (I need to PROVE I was born!!!) for the Passport and for the TSA HME and TWIC.
3) TSA for the HME. -

I regret going with Western. What campus are you attending?
-
cwr327, are you attending Western Truck School in Spring Valley, San Diego County? Why do you regret attending Western? Are you in class right now?

A bunch of people have complained about the lack of truck time and the behavior of our instructor so they recently rented a new truck and hired a new instructor. Too little too late, we're only a few days away from graduating. The only way I know how to drive is because I busted my ### and came in on weekends and nights to get extra drive time. There are a couple of people in my class who still can't straight back a tractor trailer and they've been there for 4 weeks.
The yard is a piece of ####. The landlord (not associated with the school) is too cheap to pave it so it's all tar and gravel. Parts of the yard are all torn up and you get stuck all the time. The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. I've been in some nasty gas station bathrooms but these bathrooms take the cake. A woman in my class tried to clean the woman's bathroom herself but an instructor told her not to because it's the landlords responsibility. Well if he won't clean them then who will? The whole place is just dirty. For $4500 per student per class you think they'd be able to get someone to take decent care of the place.
Before I registered for class I was told that they would send out a bunch of applications to trucking companies and get me pre-hired. Stupid newbie me, I thought I was getting some sort of great deal. When i went there to get pre-hired I was handed one application to Werner. I asked about other companies. I was told that Werner is the only company that requires a paper application and that they would be in contact with other companies. That was a lie. Werner was the only one they applied to. They push Werner really hard. They have some sort of deal with them. There's Werner posters all over the walls, there's a bunch of pictures of graduates who now work at Werner in the hallway. We were told that recruiters from several different major carriers would come and talk to us. Only one Werner recruiter showed up.ZephyrSoCal Thanks this.
