I have been considering obtaining my CDL for a couple of years. Each time I spoke to one of the large training facilities I felt rushed and frankly insignificant.
Running out of options, cash on hand and time; I stumbled across the WIA program through the Unemployment Office (ResCare). They paid for my training at Brookstone College.
This was a four week program ran by NITE (National Institute of Training and Education). The class was small; only 3 students and the instructor was fantastic.

For anyone in the Charlotte NC area looking for CDL Training I highly recommend checking them out.

Yep, I don't understand new drivers that live around there signing up with "the usual suspects" starter companies.

For some it's our only option, China. I appreciate your disdain for said megas, really I do, but it put me where I am today. :yes2557:

Notwithstanding I do often remind myself that while yes they are using me, so am I, them.

I am one of those new prospective drivers in this area, and barring WIA funding, may have to go with Millis, Prime, or Swift. My issue is wondering who to believe. the recruiters I have talked to say getting a job, right out of local school is hard because companies want a year experience. The local school says recruiters come and prehire every week of the school....who is right?

Call randy batts at future truckers of America. It's a school down in Asheboro nc and randy is the owner, he lives in Charlotte. It's a good school and he works with quite a few carriers to hire on his students. Most of the carriers will even pay for the school. A lot of the megas have quit hiring newbies out of nc unless they already have a license so FTA could be a good option for you. I know at one time he was training for TMC, maverick and central refrigerated as well as many others.

Charlotte Truck Driver School near Charlotte Douglas Airport is much closer to me, and that's what they say as well, that companies hire right outta there, some with sign on bonuses/pay you back for tuition....the decision making process is crazy, lol, I think I am absorbing too much
