Ok, my class graduated yesterday (I was short hours so I didn't get to do road test. I test Saturday.)

    1) On day of graduation, toward the end of the day, Tanya calls you to her office and you go over the paperwork in ref. to YOUR loan that was taken out in your name. The APR of the loan, what the payment is and how it works. Not that I have a problem with this, but since I was new to this line of work, didn't really understand how tuition reimbursement works and what not, I kinda feel that this should have been gone over within the first few days. I won't call it deceptive, but I feel that there is a reason they do it this way. I shall explain:

A private loan is taken out in your name. APR will depend on your financial background. I didn't need a cosigner (they push this from the get go by asking if anyone will do that should you not be able to obtain the loan) and a 6K dollar loan was granted to me. My APR was 18% (OUCH), monthly payments were 225 a month and should I go month to month, the total payout would be in the 9k and change amount. I was under the impression that Covenant (should things go well with them) pays the whole monthly note, but that's not how it works. They pay 125 a month. So, here I am with another "bill" that I sure as heck don't need at this point. Oh well, due to my situation, this has to be done for me to start this career and get back on my feet again.
I feel that they don't do this at the beginning of you starting, because IMO, I think some people would flip out and walk out the door. Just my opinion, but take it for what it's worth. I just want to be able to help some of you out should you be new here and are doing your research. Look, it's a business, they have to keep the lights on, pay the bills too, so they do what works for them.

Do your research on how the company you will be working for does their tuition reimbursement. Werners plan is nice, they help with a portion of the monthly note, but at the 6month mark they put 750 to the principal and and your one mark, kick in another 750 to the loan principal. That sure helps knock down the loan faster. Do your research guys and gals. I hope some of my info has helped. Wade

Oh, forgot this. I paid out of my own pocket to go to my primary DR and get a DOT physical before I showed up on the first day. Due to BP issues I got put back on meds. She would only approve a 3 month stamp for my medical card. Not happy, but it is what it is. Get to RM and they wanted me to do ANOTHER physical. SAID: MY DOCTOR WAS APPROVED TO DO A DOT PHYSICAL. I scratch my head on this one, but don't say anything. I was told by my recruiter they will be able to get me a one year "stamp" at the physical at Roadmasters location. (Starting to notice anything fishy here?)
Anyhoo, the 'dr' shows up at RM and I do another physical ($110) and guess what, the few days i was on bp meds my blood pressure was ok to get me a one year "stamp." Here's where I scratch my head: Anyone care to explain how my doctor (MD after her name) isn't qualified to do a DOT physical, BUT the DOCTOR who showed up to Roadmaster is a...........you sitting down........A CHIROPRACTOR?

Did you look into the WIA (Workforce Investment Act) through WorkSource?

A chiropractor has been through medical school and 9/10 times has a PhD. The one that Knight Transportation uses in Memphis is a chiropractor and is certified through the DOT to do physicals.

Didn't even know about that. I tried the VA thing first and knew from the get go that my GI Bill was expired and the VRAP program has been discontinued. VA had no help/solutions for me. Will google it now to see what it's about. Thnx bud.

Understood sir, but I was trying to make the point that my Dr. has those two magic letters after her last name and that I myself, found it "fishy" that a chiropractor was doing DOT physicals and that Roadmaster had the nuts to say that my doctor was not "certified" to do them. I left my dr. with a "three month card" due to bp issues, but four days later Roadmaster has me do another physical ($110) and I now have a 1 year medical card?????? Hmmmmmmm. Just sayin'. I called a personal friend who is an M.D. and discussed this with him. We are of the same opinion that I was right in the assumption to personally question it.

Yeah I hear ya. If your doctor is on the DOT's certified doctor's list than they were just trying to get money from you. Some companies and schools require you to go through their doctor no matter what, but than again most pick up the bill for it too. I know that I came to Knight's Squire program to get my CDL and came with a DOT physical, and day 1 they sent us all over to a chiropractors office in Olive Branch, MS to get another one done. I totally understand what you are saying though.

The only thing though is not ANY doctor is certified to sign off on any DOT physical card. They have to be certified through the DOT's saying that they know all of the rules and regulations and all that jazz. Just because they have a PHD does not make them certified to sign off on a DOT medical card.

    Wade68 Thanks this.

is the VRAP the same as the vocational rehabilitation assistance that they have? I know they told me that i still qualified for that, but did not use it.

Wade, sorry sir, you got Roadmastered.

Its the typical scam for trucking schools that sell the loan off. Roadmaster works with Partners Financial. Partners agrees to buy the loan at pennies on the dollar because truck school loans are high risk, so Roadmaster jacks the price up to make sure they still get their end, the rest of what you pay goes to Partners Financial.

You might want to double check your paperwork. That $9000 dollars isnt your 18% interest rate......I am willing to bet that is the amount of your loan, PLUS 18% interest.

Partners probably offered Roadmaster $0.40 on the dollar for your paper.

They will never explain all of this up front because no one would enroll.

These are all things that should be laid out at enrollment so you have time to back out and find better options.
