We all have to do what we have to do sometimes. Said I would never take another otr job, but here I go. Seems this co is throwing me in a tanker, with no experience what so ever hauling one, and hitting the road. Least it's paid by the hour, I suppose.
My dilemma is, I've been straight line logging for years and have no idea really how to log properly and stay legal. Kinda hard when you don't even know what they are. Any helpful sites/links or useful tidbits? Can you still do the split sleeper this and the 34 hr restart?
First time OTR in 4 years...Update me on the log book regs?

14 hours on duty, 11 hours drive time 10 hours in sleeper, no you can not split log, yes you still can do the 34 hour restart, no you cannot fuel/anything but sleeper and off duty during that time.
-
Thanks for the reply. Can you log loading time as off duty?
-
yes and no, you have to put at least 15 minutes on duty to load
-
That was ambiguous... Ha.

I usually off duty myself, until i get loaded, then before i leave i'll off duty myself til i leave, then show 15 minutes for load, some dispute this time, but if you use more time you'll eat up your clock on on duty hours, 15 mins, pretrip, 15 mins load, and just flag the post trip, long as you're not slip seating. everyone logs different but i don't eat up my clock on items, sometimes they wonder about 15 minute pretrip, but its simple, you can spend as much as 2 hours on a pretrip if you checked every single airline, bolt, spring, shock, belt, etc every single day, when you know your truck you'll know the most to check and if there's something wrong, you'll get to know exactly where it is by what your truck is doing..
15 minute fuel, just off duty other time sitting waiting for the pump, its your word against theirs if you was sitting in your chair waiting for a pump or if you were eating a sandwich waiting.
when you do the restart, on the first day i'll show them together, for instance say 7-7:30 DVI & RESTART, 15 minutes for each item, you'll be good to go -
Makes sense, thanks for the reply.

welcome, first two posts, were kinda rushed, been running around getting everything ready, clothes packed, and so forth, was just trying to answer the questions as quick as i could, didn't know what kinda rush you were in
-
Yes you CAN split sleeper berth time, but it has to be 8 hours logged in the sleeper for one part and a minimum of 2 hours off duty or sleeper. the 8 hours stops the 14 hour clock, the 2 hours does not. It can get confusing sometimes but this is also a very useful thing to be able to do. Spend 2 1/2 hours in the bunk while loading or unloading then you only need an 8 hour sleeper break. It can help a lot if you can get up two hours earlier to get around a major city's rush hour traffic.

On duty for pre\post trip, fuel, loading.....driving (self explanatory)......The split break IS still legal, you have to show the 8 hrs first, and then the 2 or more hours at or near the end of your 14 hr duty cycle.
There is no requirement to log a 34 restart, those changes were suspended recently anyway (pending further review), so long as you run your recap hours.
