Didn't watch the video. But I can tell you that I trained first, then got my license. Where you get your 'training' has a big impact.

Same here. We got 8 weeks of intensive beyond the normal CDL mill training on a permit only and didn't get the license until we passed a much more stringent course than what the state requires and 2 certification on-road trips before my school signed us off for the license.

I was much better prepared for the real world with a trainer by choosing my school well......as evidenced by the fact that out of 4 students in orientation, I was the only one that made it past the first day. 2 of the other 3 week CDL mill wonders had accidents on their road test.

Yup. I think states don't get into it too much because most companies are going to require you to have additional training to satisfy their insurance and liability requirements (for companies that are and are not self-insured).

That's why I went with an employer that has a training program for new drivers. I was bright enough to know that I still had (and still have) a LOT to learn. After my road test (pre-hire)...the only "driving" I did for the first month or so was shuffling trailers around the lot. Their outlook on new drivers is basically "we want to see if you can avoid breaking **** on the lot before we put you on the road." I can definitely appreciate that.

Once my supervisor was satisfied that I was good on backing and not reckless (and they were done needing me on the dock)...I got signed off to drive 80 hours with a trainer. That's 80 driving hours (a good bit for LTL).

i thought my school was pretty thorough, albeit, a lot of information to take in 2 weeks. but being a retired mechanic helped me. probably not many others though.

i can't really complain about my female trainer, either. not that i really liked her, THEN. but she much more pleasant then the males of the 2 week course. although, none of them beat the actual class instructor. very nice man.

personally, i had a good fast paced experience. unfortunately, not many are that sharp to begin with. and probably require at least 2 months.

Doesn't matter how much "intense" training you get in school. You're still going to go through 39405828294 things school didn't teach you.

Didn't watch the entire video, but there is a lot of truth in it, many of the drivers out there, I wouldn't let drive a tricycle, let alone a 80,000 Lb rig, mostly do to the fact that they are not properly trained, some do to they are just mindless animals who think they know how to drive

Around the middle of the video there's a guy who worked for CRST to test drivers, and they told him to purposely make his test super easy so anyone could pass because he was rejecting too many recruits by him doing proper testing. Basically told not to do his job, I am sure the rest of these megas are the same. Also told to ignore people with crack pipes, bags of weed, etc because too many were getting fired for drug use.

Maybe the states or feds need to intervene and put an end to this practice and have stricter standards so it's less dangerous for the drivers and the public.

    do states bare any responsibly

As far as the states bearing any responsibilities for training, perhaps so. There may seem to be no standard for training, over say a lesson plan and rights to teach for a certificate to operate a school.

Until the Federal Government steps in and puts it into writing the exact hours of schooling nothing will be done. For example, here public schools must have classes for 180 days.

No trucking school has a specific number of days for attendance, that is across every state, so there fore, a trucking school can say "we can train you in 5 days for your license", and get away with it, cuz they will be there for the 5 days, if you ain't you lost out.

All the school has to show is the curriculum, to the board of education (for trade/tech schools I presume, not public schools), and get approval with a payment fee to the state.

In the video, the former manager for CRST had said what I have been saying for so long, "many are there as a last resort". This is so true, as he went on to say that they failed at this job, that job, they have no hope so trucking is for them or so they think.

He even said to "stay off the sidewalks".! He is NOT a disgruntled former employee, he is disenchanted as he said, and I believe him. I also believe the lawsuits against CRST, but that got screwed up by the lawyers representing that gals. Ill just wonder what would have happened if a gal slugged or took a baseball bat to a trainer, what would happen to her?

Assault with intent to kill perhaps? Over her charges of sex assault or rape?

Yeah, CRST even Covenant where the gal worked (this video is from a few years ago, she may have moved on) where she said she was teamed up with a released murderer?

    Jesus H. Christ.
