Congratulations and welcome to your new career. Plenty of veterans on this forum from all branches. So, as you post, you're an Army vet & laid back; well, you will do well in trucking. Don't sweat the small stuff, just get it done.Yes, do keep us updated. In fact, a couple of Army vets recently posted they went with Celadon refrigerated division and happy there.

Thanks everyone. Im also not 100% sure about the Celadon 240K mile commitment.... should I just stick it out? Or should I just go with a different company?

I have a few prehires, 1 of which is a locomotive fueling position, and another out in PA that a fellow vet reffered me to... they pay actually pretty good in my terms.

The reason im asking is I spoke with the VA about my Post 9/11 GI bill and they said they would cover an "approved" school.... low and behold that Quality and a local school in Fort Wayne isnt covered by it... but I can, however, use a grant I was approved for. Any thoughts?

Well the recruiter said it would be 3 weeks, which is fine, but after that i would have to do the 240K commitment, so the cdl school would be free. Otherwise, i could go with the other prehires, and get paid a lot more, and pay off the school by myself, or use the Grant to pay it off...... how do you feel about that @secorp?

If you done your research and Celadon seems good to you and you think you will be happy and stick it out with them, go for it. Do a ton of research though before you commit with them. Being a vet it will open up doors for you with good companies.

Thats what was so cool about the locomotive prehire i got. Generally, on his ads, the company asks for 2 years exp. but at the bottom it says vets are encouraged to apply... I was just like "So without further a due" lol Pretty cool getting the prehire i must say.

I think coming from the military, one thing that stuck with me.... recruiters are not always trustworthy but Ms Wendy seemed cool. so did SSG _______ (my Army recruiter) lol

And I did a lot of research, and looked at their FB page which has reviews from all new drivers... 9/10 arent getting paid, arent getting loads and sitting forever, or their checks are shorted.... which if that were to happen to me, GI BILL will come in handy haha

In trucking the first job is just too get 6 months experience, then move up, then after 2 years move up again. The best of the best require 3 years or more. Lots of small outfits with only a few trucks pay well too. I would not work for anyone that has a slave contract. You give them 6 month's that is more than enough. 240, 000 might take a year.

pay for your own school and leave when you want. Schools are just for your CDL, no more.
