So I have 2 offers as stated and really want to do tanker driving but don't know much about either company but what I read. I do have a CDL but have been in expediting since 2011 and they want me to start Monday so gotta go back to their school/training which is fine but my main questions are...

    1. Tanking ...is it a job for a woman to do within reason? I am 6ft, 200lbs and pretty strong but not superwoman lol.

    2. Tanking... do you have to climb the top of the tanker alot? What do they haul? The recruiter said me being in NC is a great area for tanking

    3. Prime Training.... it looks good but since I already have a cdl will I have to retake all the tests? I trained with Schneider and the they were very helpful and more than nice and worked with me.

    4. Knight.... She said it would be a refresher class but I haven't driven a 10spd since 2008 so will 2 or 5 days be enough to retrain me? I would hate to get down there and fail

I guess my nerves are stirred up and just would love some feedback of others input on what to do. Ultimately, I want to have a local job in about 2 years but have always wanted to do tankers so kept the endorsement just in case but don't want to make a mistake and get in over my head. I know fladbedding is hard work but see a lot of my sisters doing it but really never seen many in the bulk division. Is there a reason that I don't know about?

But thanks in advance. Both seem like nice companies to restart my career with again but the pay with prime's tanker seems to be a lot better so tha's a plus.

I wouldn't feel rushed by the 2 offers. Companies are screaming for drivers all the time.

I'd look at some better companies - you have your CDL already, and you have experience, so I don't see a need to go to these two.

Where's Chinatown with a list of tanker reccomendations when you need him?

Yes, of course you can handle the work - don't be silly!

Because my experience with Schneider was 7 years ago they consider me inexperienced since i've just been driving expediting straight trucks. I have had other offers but honestly would like to go into the bulk/tank division instead of driving a van.

You already worked with Schneider before, so go back to their tanker division which is Schneider Bulk. They sometimes pay for CDL school.
If not Schneider Bulk, then CTL Transportation would be good for hazmat/tankers. They have their own CDL school in Florida and also sponsor new drivers with other schools such as C1 in other states.
If you really want tankers, then don't waste your time with reefers.
Prime is OK for food grade tankers, but the good money is with hazmat.

    Where is your location.

Schneider and I fell out but they report me as a good employee on everything (long story) I drove everything from a Hino to converted KW that they put a 24ft reefer box on the back. All of the trucks I drove were fullsize tractors just straight box trucks. But I have my tanker endorsement, hazmat, passport,etc...and i'm from North Carolina

North Carolina is in the hiring area for CTL Transportation. Go for it!

Yes, sometimes you may be required to climb on top of a tanker to check dome lid, seals, hook up air, etc. Nothing to it. Some companies check heart rate for tanker work so start doing some stair step excercising, brisk walks, jog in place. Don't over think it because it's just a safety precaution, nothing more.

So they have a training school in Florida? Do you know anything about it? I would feel much more at ease to go thru at least some type of training since the trucks in expediting since 2011 I drove were automatics. So to put me behind a wheel with a 10spd that's controling a tanker would have my nerves so burned out lol. What made you say them? I looked them up but their website is pretty basic

I said them because they're the only hazmat/tanker company with their own CDL school.
Not sure they use 10 speeds, might be automatics. They're a division of Comcar & some divisions have automatics. I pulled hazmat/tankers 48 states and used automatic for awhile and loved it; very relaxing. Didn't drive for CTL though.

C1 Truck Driver Training is one school CTL pays for outside of Florida.

I called and left a message but from what I read you have to leave the truck at the yard and live within 50 miles...it said Atl, Ga. But who knows, maybe they just haven't updated the hiring map. I will know soon as they call back.

If no then what other options would you advise me to do? And thanks sooooo much for helping. I don't want to make too big of a mistake. I know being a newbie I will start at the bottom again but some of these companies are really robbing us in the beginning. I just want a company I can stay with a yr at least and you said you had an automatic truck would be like hitting the lotto for me, I prob wouldn't leave!

Yes - don't be too quick to jump, patience and research in the beginning will save you a mountain of headaches in the longer term.

Ignore company website 'requirements' - approach them directly and they'll often bend on several requirements, especially 'hiring area'.
