| Western in San Diego Does anyone have any knowledge of Western Truck Driving's San Diego school? I am thinking about a trucking career, but am not sure how I want to start. As far as I can find out, none of the colleges here offer training. After all, this is not exactly a trucking hub. Swift and c r england advertise paid training in the local online classifides, but after reading the posts here on them, I think I would be a lot better off scrapping up the tuition for a school on my own and then seeing what job I could find from there. |

| Did you find anything out? Hi SailorSteve - I'm looking at Western in San Diego, also. Did you find anything out? It'll either be that or United. My hubby's going to ROP, but they're so in demand, they do it by a lottery and I need to get my license by the time he's done in June so we can be hired together. |

| Western no good! There were several people in my class at Desert Truck Driving School in Sparks Nevada who were from the Sacramento California area. They checked out the Western program and said it wasn't nearly worth the money, so they went out of state to Nevada to be trained. VegasRoadDawg |

Watkins Shepard has a 4 week program that from what I read on here is great training. I can't speak to how their contracts work but at least you know (by reading on here) that they have a good reputation. |

Good training bad payroll dept. They had made several promises to me that "went away" after I got out of training. I am just thankful that I didn't have to sign a contract with them. Beware their payroll practices. |

| If I had done better research, I wouldn't have gone to Western Truck School in Sacramento, Ca. First of all I was promised extensive training for taking my permit test. Never happened, I studied on my own to pass it. Everything is rush, rush, rush. Not all students learn at the same pace and to put a student in a situation that required more training, it not only is dangerous, but the student loses his confidence in his abilities, which makes even harder the next time. When a student asks for more individual instruction, he is most likely ingnored. Hey! We are paying you, not you paying us. GET A CLUE! . And as far as the tractors and trailers are concerned, they are pieces of crap that should have been sent to truck heaven a long time ago. The Werner truck is nice, but hard to learn on, especially when the intructor is yelling at you for grinding a few gears when double clutching. I mean, it is training....right? Ok, enough venting.... |
