Nu-Way

Well just figured I'd make a post since I didn't see one for this school. I'm Attending Nu-Way truck driver training in Livonia Michigan. It is a three week course consisting of 165 hrs Minimum. Its like 40hr class time 80hrs in the yard and 45hrs on the road. The classes run from 7am till 5pm Mon.-Sat. From what I've see there is no pressure to turn students out though after the three weeks. If the trainers don't feel your ready to go on to the state test you stay for more time. They are also a third party tester here in Mich. which means no testing at the Secretary of State(and anyone from Mich. can attest to how slow they are there). Everything is included in the tuition if you have to re test it's covered your Temp. Cdl is also covered.
There job placement is for life (or the life of the school)and they currently work with over seventy carriers. From what I'm told if at any time i would like to change company's I just have to call and go see a consular. If I ever come off the road for a year or whatever I can also be retrained for no fee. The job placement dept has been very helpfully thus far and I have enjoyed talking with them. They have helped me out alot. The tuition is on the high side at $5900, but they have even helped me with acquiring a student loan and alot of other odds and ends. I feel I have made the right choice with this program.

Ok guys I'm going to try to post my day to day activity's in the class and yard right on through to getting my cdl-A..........I hope this will help someone here in choosing a school for themselves

Day 1
Well today I had my first day of class. The class consists of 15 people 13 guys and 2 gals. Lots of talking this morning. Once all the bigwig's had their say we got right down to business. Started with the Log's, Talked about the different lines and the importance of logging and being current, looked at overheads. We even made a couple samples, all this took about 2.5 hrs Took a test and that was that....... Passed with 100% Wooohoo I was kinda disappointed with this because it seems we rushed though the logging process....But it really doesn't seem that hard and I feel all(ok maybe not all of us but every class has a few slow people LOL) of us could do it next week again no problem. Now we would dive right into the CDL manual. Reading and highlighting and highlighting and more reading and highlighting We would stop and take the little tests at the end of the chapters and start right over reading again lol............felt like i was a kid again in school OOO What a headache I had!!

Day2
Had a recruiter come in this morning to talk. Boy can those guys lay it on thick(I was glad I wore my boots). Then we were off and running in the book again. We also watched a couple movies today and the doc came in for our drug screen and physical today. O what a treat that was! pretty uneventful day...tomorrow we get to take some tests and watch these movies again Yippee

So I am curious, How is it going now?
I am just starting the search for a trucking school and Livonia is very close to me. I have a job now that I will have to keep until I finish school, I assume they offer night and weekend classes too, but I suppose a call to them will clear that up.
Good Luck to you!
