Roadmaster: 3 weeks review

OK, I just finished my training at Roadmaster and for those of you considering this school I will give you my pros and cons.

PROS
I was able to get about 3 hours per day behind the wheel. Made alot of friends along the way. I did have a good time and learned alot.

CONS
The equipment was sub par. The trucks we used in the yard were in horrible shape, no a/c couple would not stay running. The road trucks were descent, but not the best. I was one of the lucky ones, I pretty much kept the same instructor on the road the whole time but some of the other guys in my class used 5 different trucks with 5 different instructors, made it hard when they had to take the road test in a truck they only driven a couple times. The management seemed like they did not care when you brought this to there attention. I was told by the recruiter that class was only 5 days a week when I got there I found out it was 6 days a week. The hotel they put us in sucked, hard beds and the a/c sucked.

If you asked if I would reccomend Roadmaster I would say yes. Next week the school is getting newer trucks and selling the old trucks they have so that little con will become a pro. And the whole different instructor thing will be changed also. I got what I paid for, a CDL and a good working knowledge of the trucking industry. This school costs $6500, there are cheaper schools out there that will probably teach you the same thing. I hope my experiences will help someone.

Thanks Daddybear. Nice to have a good, honest assessment of things. I'm starting at the Columbus school on Monday, and now have a good idea what to expect.

Thank you very much for the info. I plan on starting Roadmaster in Jacksonville, FL. next week. I still wasn't sure how the $6500 for school was to be paid back. They just said it would cost me $500 on Monday and $35 physical, $40 drug screen and $50 DMV License fees in the third week.

The recruiter kept stating that the company I go with (Probably US Express) will pick up the tab for the rest.... Is this true? I assume it will be deducted from my pay or something. Not sure.

I am sorry to hear about your experience with the trucks and multiple instructors. That sux! I dealt with that when I went through Police Academy several years back...

I am supposed to get a call from the school tomorrow with more enrollment info so I definately have some questions to ask. I think I'll go ahead and inform them that I have a Jewish Lawyer in the family and a close friend in the Attorney Generals Office. See how that sets with them, hehehe....

Anyhow, thanks for the info. Hope things work out for you on the road!!

BE SAFE!
