Swift Transportation school Lewiston, Idaho

I am in Iowa, and was told my a Swift recruiter that I would be attending schooling in Idaho. Not a big problem for me, seeing how they provide the bus ticket there anyways. But has anybody ever trained there, or IN or NEAR idaho?

Oh, i have looked into other schools. TMC here in Des Moines wont let me get into training without already having a CDL. I am still waiting on the packet from MCT they said they'd send me last week. Schneider hasnt called back regarding my application, and i am calling Werner today to see if they have a driving school/placement with Werner.

I haven't commited to anything yet.

Heck go and get your CDL permit and go with TMC
Getting the permit is easy enough

If at ALL POSSIBLE, get the school on your own rather than thru a truck company. You will be committed to them, and they use that. If things don't work out, you will owe them big time,,,,PLUS interest. If you can get a loan, VA, WIA, something to pay for school on your own, you can quit a bad company anytime, and get a better one.,,,or go elsewhere if trucking isn't the thing u thought it was.
Wife and I went to Sage in SLC. Sage is nationwide and is one on one when driving,,ie if 4 go in a truck with another company for 4 hrs (Very normal), you get 1 hr behind the wheel, and 3 watching, but credit 4hrs driving. With Sage all 4 hrs are yours behind the wheel.
Sage is in Idaho as well, and the mountain driving there or Salt Lake (SLC) would be a big plus.
Send an IM if you need anymore help or info.

Credit sucks to bad to get a student loan. So i cannot go that route. And you cannot go to TMC without going thru school and getting a CDL. All they do is just send you thru 3 week orientation, pretty much. Lady i spoke to at TMC said i should go to DMACC and take their 6 week class for $2200. i dont have that just laying around....

Community Colleges have alot of options or funding if you talk with them, including state $$ for career training. You might be surprised.

You CANNOT get on with TMC with just a permit. Same with Werner. Both want you to have your Class A CDL already. The 'recruiter' at TMC I spoke with, directed me to go to DMACC, a community college here in town and take their CDL program. Unfortunately, I don't have $2200 to go thru class, not to mention the course is 6 weeks long. By that time, I could have gone thru class with a company, and been half way thru OJT with a mentor....making money.

I'm looking at exactly the same thing. Live in Montana and I'd be going to Idaho if Swift was the company for me to train with. I would much rather just get my license through the local community college. Swift makes it much easier. Another post mentioned federal assistance to pay for it though, and I'm thinking I'll be going to the unemployment office here to see how poor I need to be for them to pay for me to get a cdl a license. Wouldn't life be that much sweeter to have the choice to choose the company you want to start with.

Interesting
Actually I could believe TMC would require it
But with Werner's rep I assumed they would take any body they could get
