P.D.I. Rochester NY

Hello,

As is the case with many people interested in learning trucking, I need advice on a school. I haven't been able to find out much about P.D.I. (Professional Driving Institute) in Rochester NY. What they promise is lifetime job placement, unlimited drive time and guaranteed CDL. They told me I should have no problem getting a regional or local job as a newbie (OTR doesn't suite my family life too well). Has anyone had experience with these people? They seem legit and have nice facilities and equipment. I'm just concerned that I'm being told what I want to hear so I'll give them $4900. I just want to know that I'll be well trained and have a job that doesn't keep me out for weeks at a time.

Thanks!

I too am looking for some info on PDI. I am looking to start in September. I too have the same hopes as you, but I am realistic about the away time as I know that I know the first year will be hell unless I get lucky. Let me know if you have anything on PDI.

KJB and Jammer61,

I made the decision to go to PDI. Talked to a few graduates and some long time truckers that I've known over the years. While I hope not to be OTR, it is not out of the Question for me.

There are pre-pay and early enrollment discounts that can lower your total out lay of funds. I pre-paid using some of my severance pay from my last job, and will get most of that back through a retraining allowance from the company that downsized me. Still tough to write that check for that amount while being un-employed.

My background does have some trucking experience with the USAF. Drove tractor trailers while in the military both on base and off. Never pursued it when I left the Military in 1980 because that is when I went to work for my last employer.

Now with that change in life and the need to keep on working, a Job in the Trucking industry seems to be a good fit for me personally. I discussed this at length with the School Recruiter on three occassions.

I just got back from my physical which I passed with flying colors. My classes start this Monday because the had an opening and I was flexible with my start date.

Had a tour of the facilities today and looked over the equipment. Seems like pretty nice stuff, well maintained and clean which is how I would want it.

The jobs I am looking for are not full time driver positions, but there are requirements to have a CDL. While I may not need the CDL-A it sure will not hurt, and being out of work, I have the time so I'm going for it!.
