| Are we talking about the same school, did you go to NTTS or NETTS? And if you don't mind me asking how much did it cost? |
| ||||
| I went to NTTS in Liverpool, Winter of 1991. I remember it was an alright school. The equpiment I am sure has been changed, at the time it wasn't what you would call great (DOT compliance). The classroom and field work were outstanding. I learned alot while I was there. Please remember, any school you attend, what you put into you will get out. A school will not make a truckdriver out of a person. Go to school, open your mind and soul, listen to those around you. Take what you think is good advice and store away the rest. Listen and Learn. |

| I'm not sure what is meant by "602 hr" or "302 hr". At the time I was unemployed and was able to go to the weekday course. The school also offered a weekend course. My school start time was something like 7am until 3 or 4 in the afternoon. 5 days a week, with the weekends off. It was expensive then, I think it was around 5 to 7 thousand dollars for the course. They were quite thorough, even teaching how to put snow chains onto tires, how to change tires. (Even though I've yet to use chains I think I recall how it's done.) In class training was top notch, we had homework every night, and we were keeping logbooks daily towards the end of the course. One of the best parts about it for me, training was in the winter time. Snow, a learners permit, very qualified instructors, and an empty tractor trailer made for excellent training. At the time I don't think the school had an instructor with less than 2million miles of driving experience. The trucks the school had for actual driving were interesting, some had guages that worked, some had bad tires. Please remember this was also 1991 and not 2009. In retrospect the quirks in the equipment was a good thing. It somehow gave me confidence to believe in myself and use the other senses. I see that you live in NY, what you call "scary co." Am I right that you live in Schoharie County? or Schulyer County. I am originally from the Watkins Glen area. If so then you should be quite used to the winter weather and the differences in driving. |
