What are all the companies that have trucking schools? for someone just gettin into the industry, are there any advantages in going to a trucking school run by a company versus going to one at a c college?

There is also the danger of being terminated for a minor accident or violation of some petty company policy .
While a community college gives better training it doesn't really matter . With thousands of jobs lost every month in the industry and more and more people trying to get hired every month the odds against even getting hired increase daily . If you don't get hired within a few months your CDL becomes useless unless you pay for refresher training . -

i was wondering if you or others knew specifically what companies have trucking company schools or had them in the past. i see that swift has one & that schneider had one in the past. did jb hunt ever have one?
other companies that i think hav had them: crete, crst, cr england, new prime inc, and stevens transport. i wasn't sure though about crete and crst.
did werner ever have one? -
Werner uses the community college route (requires minimum number of hours logged at school). Roehl has one, Watkins\Shepard might have one.
Realistically, your best chance is through a local community college. That way your not tied down to any one company (no matter the conditions) as Rick said.JustSonny Thanks this. -
CR England, Roehl, MCT, Swift, Schneider (still exists), Central Refridgerated, and Stevens have them. There are others so please add to my list.

actually I think there are some advantages to company schools, i.e. you train on their equipment. you are pre approved for employment with them. yes I know about the contract, but you did get free training. plus any job that is better than the company that trains you will have many experienced drivers to compete with. from my experience Stevens seems to be the better of the training fleets.

I would agree with monkeypuncher. not shelling out thousands of dollars to a school for truck driver training is worth the one year obligation not to mention you actually have a job. After all, isn't a job the ultimate goal? if you can't make a commitment to the trucking company (to work for 1 year), why in the world should they commit money for your training? There's no such thing as a free ride, but there are mutually beneficial opportunities. try Driver Solutions for some ideas of companies offering truck driver training.

While both of you make some sense in what you say. Pleae do not forget that hiring on with most of the big fleets after private school has its benefits as well.
1. not tied to them for the entirety of a contract no matter how bad they make it for you.
2. many of them offer tuition re-reimbursement plans to coincide with you time spent working for them (same as the company schools)
3. the company run schools ARE NOT FREE, if you leave before then end of the contract they WILL charge you the full amount of the education.
4. if you paid for your own education you have no bill waiting for you at the end of a failed contract, and won't owe a company for training that you won't use if you decide that you can't\ don't like driving an 80,000# piece of equipment. -
Don't you realize the reason they are constantly hiring ? They mostly hire to replace newbies that didn't last long .
