Nothing other than a re flash. I believe hard parts are required if Cat does it. (assuming they will as long as the transmission is rated for 2050tq) I've been thinking about doing it but I want to find a spare ECM but I've been side tracked lately.

I would like to know if it is possible to switch a twin turbo back to a single turbo and if so what is the estimated cost and what all it requires. Thanks for any responses

Unless your a wiring/programing wizzard you cant do it. Your old 2007 kw was pre emission (no diesel particulate filter nxs , mxs serial number prefix). Your SDP engine is way different, the engine ecm is totally different on the sdp vs the old one. Not to mention, the after treatment system on it. Your looking at one hell of a job. Best thing to do is get rid of the sdp engine

Do you have the DPF, and all associated wiring, regen controls and dash read outs, along with the 2010 ECM? If not, I don't think you can make this work. I don't know if you can take enough stuff off the 2010 engine, and replace with 2007 parts, to make it work or not, but I doubt you can.

A simple connector is not near enough to make the complex changes you are trying to make.

they dont make a conversion harness that i am aware of. Your going to have to make your own harness. theres more to it then just doing harness, you have j1939, j1708 wiring that needs to be done CORRECTLY for the dpf and cab communications to work in unison. you have cgi and dpf bracket and mounting spots and frame work to accommodate it. The engine will derate you big time if you dont have the dpf installed and its not doing what it wants to see. unless you can come up with a dpf delete mod for it. and managed to fool the ecm. Not to mention you have dpf status indicators you have to install in the dash, regen switches. it just goes on and on. its not just a simple swap. Its very complicated and even at a dealer would be a very hefty job

It is possible to swap out the compound turbo setup for a single...but this will require a new exhaust manifold, new turbo, different ECM programming (if not a totally different ECM), wiring harnesses, intake tubes, and a few other things. From the couple of shops that I know who have suckered guys into doing it the prices range from $6000-8000. Your best bet would be to read the other CAT and ACERT threads here and on The Diesel Garage and follow the step by step process of creating a beast of a ACERT motor. The ACERTs can pull harder and get close to the same MPG compared to any motor out here if they are are healthy.

Just taking a stab here but you may be able to use an MXS/NXS ecm and engine harness leaving any SDP sensors dead. this way you could use the trucks current harness. just a thought....
