I know these are mostly on car carriers but I've seen several other companys using them, mostly on aero trucks. I think they should be outlawed, period.

Years back I was parked at the Irving truckstop at the border between NB and Quebec. The night was extremely cold and I was snuggled down in my COE Freightliner, all toasty in my artic sleeping bag COE Freightshakers ain't the warmest truck inna world at -40.:biggrin_2559:

Anyroads, sometime during the night, I halfways woke up and could barely see, the inside of my truck was a thick haze....smoke. I remember thinking my truck was on fire and lunged over the seat to the door. The second that outside air hit me I passed out and fell headfirst to the ground. Got to my feet and staggered towards the truckstop, falling several times before a couple of other drivers grabbed me up and dragged me inside..... where I promptly threw up all over their floor. Couldn't see because my eyes were pouring tears. Finally croaked out "Truck... Fire" and several guys rushed out to where my FS sat with smoke rolling out the open door.

Well, my truck wasn't on fire. A carhauler had pulled in close beside me. His exhaust was blowing right under my rig where my heater system was sucking it right into my cab. A minute or so longer and I wouldn't be posting this right now. I was one sick puppy for about a week afterwards.

Im a little confused, diesel exhaust isn't even poisonous.... It just causes cancer:biggrin_25523:. So that statement about being almost dead from the fumes is quite false. Unless of course the car hauler was a gas job.

It is my understanding that, any type carbon fuel that burns it produces carbon monooxide an odorless gas that kills.I am not an expert just my 2 cents

I parked next to a car hauler one afternoon with a low exhaust & was parked back far enough to be lined right up with the exhaust, guess what my truck got when he fired up. My fault, looked right at it when I parked there & was sitting with the window down.

Also noticing hopper bottom guys with low exhaust as well to clear overheads. The set up makes sense & will probably have that set up too, but just pulling in to park at truck stops would alleviate the problem for anyone else parked nearby.

I could be wrong but I dont think carbon monoxide is an issue with diesel fuels, the problem is that the carbon dioxide displaces the oxygen in the air and could cause you to pass out then die from a lack of oxygen.

Diesel produces carbon monoxide, just not near as much as gas

I'll be ###### if I wasn't at a Loves last night in Ontario, OR and a T600 parked next to me. His exhaust came out the bottom of his fairings, like a nascar exhaust pointed right at my truck!!!! I had to move!!! I couldn't breathe!!!
