Macks E7 engine good or bad?

Ive' been shopping around lately looking for a good deal on a used truck and I recently came across a killer deal on three Mack Vision model trucks, each with the Mack E7 engine in them. I looked around at a few web sites to try and find out a little about this E7 but couldn't find much. Does any one own one of these trucks or do any of you have info about this engine. I would like to see how it stacks up with the big three Cumm, Cat, Detroit. TY

Go to http://www.bigmacktrucks.com they have everything to know about E-7s. What year is the truck? I can tell you the E7 is a much better engine than the ASET Mack used from 03-06 which have a lot of problems and will eat you alive. Honestly I would still to a pre emission truck which will be anything older than a 2002.

we run 6 ch613 of the 427's 99 thru 01 or 02. nothing but trouble. the one i drive has been rebuilt 4 times in 400,000. it has been the worst of the bunch. dropped sleeves, and rockers jumping off, have been most of the trouble. i am sure many were good, but we didn't have much luck.

thanks, i found that site about a year ago, if a fellow drives a mack, it is the place to be.

it seems my destiny is to drive a mack. we still run about 75 macks, mostly mixer trucks, the mechanical engine macks, well they would wear out several drivers, before they gave up. the electronic macks made us switch to cummins power.

You don't have to drive a Mack to be a member. Yeah the ole E9 V8 and the mechanical E7 powered Mack's were their best engines ever. When they went to the electronics they have had problems. I hear their new MP engines are great and have far less problems. But you got to remember everyone else had problems when they went to electronics too but Detroit was ahead of the game by a few years so they had an advantage.

The older 350's and 454's were the best in my opinion. The 460's are good but are hit or miss, I've seen reliable ones and I've seen ones constantly broke down. The only new MP I've had experience with is the MP7 and it was full of electrical problems. Thats really all I can offer other than the Mack service/parts network leaves a lot to be desired.

I've had very good luck with my 01 427 only problem I have had was the plastic radiator which I replaced with a steel one 99-01 had some cam problems, the ones I know of the owners did not keep the overhead run 04-05 had lots of issues all of which boils down to the egr and turbo there has been a ton of money spent and a bunch of changeovers trying to make them reliable 06 and up is alot better truck dealer support for me has been better than any other brand I have run IH, Pete, Kw, FTL I get better fuel milage with the Mack than N-14'S and 3406E's pulling the same load at the same speed

I agree that the older 350's and 454's were the best. I've never been a fan of the 460's although I've heard a few people say they liked them.
